Job Description
The client is seeking an experienced Senior HIM Specialist with a strong background in Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), patient identity, and data integrity to support a healthcare organization in Dallas, TX.

This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of patient information across the electronic medical record. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience researching and resolving complex patient identity issues, including duplicate records, overlays, demographic corrections, deceased-patient updates, and patient portal/proxy access.

Because changes made within the EMPI can impact appointments, patient portal access, medical records, and other downstream systems, this position requires exceptional attention to detail and the ability to thoroughly research information before making changes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and resolve duplicate patient records and overlays
  • Review, verify, and correct patient demographic information, including names and dates of birth
  • Process deceased-patient updates after reviewing and validating available documentation
  • Perform patient record merges, corrections, flags, and other data-integrity updates
  • Review and process MyChart proxy/access requests involving minors, parents, guardians, adoptive parents, and incapacitated adults
  • Validate appropriate supporting documentation before granting or modifying patient access
  • Utilize Epic, Care Everywhere, and other available healthcare systems to research patient information
  • Review multiple sources of information to ensure changes are accurate before updating the medical record
  • Monitor and respond to patient identity/data-integrity requests received through phone and departmental mailboxes
  • Maintain the privacy, confidentiality, accuracy, and security of protected health information
  • Meet established productivity, quality, and turnaround-time expectations
  • Collaborate with HIM leadership and team members to resolve complex patient-record issues

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of healthcare experience with a related vocational certificate or degree OR 3+ years of healthcare, business, and/or HIM experience in lieu of a certificate
  • Previous experience working within Health Information Management, EMPI, patient identity, or healthcare data integrity
  • Strong knowledge of electronic medical records and patient demographic information
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to independently research complex issues and make accurate, well-supported decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Highly Preferred Experience

  • Candidates with direct hands-on experience in the following areas are strongly preferred:
  • Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI/MPI)
  • Epic
  • Duplicate medical record resolution
  • Patient record overlays
  • Patient record merges
  • Demographic corrections
  • Deceased-patient workflows
  • MyChart proxy/access requests
  • Epic Care Everywhere
  • HIM data integrity or patient identity management
  • RHIT or other related HIM credentials are a plus but are not required.
