Senior Linux Platform Engineer (Podman & Automation)

Overview

Senior Linux Platform Engineer with strong Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and containerization expertise to help design, automate, and operationalize an enterprise Podman platform. This role will support the deployment of a new container service offering focused on security compliance, automation, and governance across a large enterprise environment.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Linux infrastructure, automation, Podman containers, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools. This individual will work closely with platform engineering, container architects, security teams, and DevOps engineers to establish container standards and automate deployment processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and support enterprise Podman container environments on RHEL 9.x.
• Develop and implement automation solutions using Ansible and related automation technologies.
• Build automated container deployment workflows using existing CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with platform engineering teams to establish container security, compliance, and operational standards.
• Configure and optimize Podman environments running on VMware-based infrastructure.
• Automate provisioning and deployment of container hosts and application workloads.
• Integrate container deployments with existing enterprise platforms, including:
  • GitHub
  • Terraform
  • ServiceNow
  • Red Hat Satellite
  • Enterprise CI/CD pipelines
• Partner with architects and infrastructure teams to create scalable and repeatable deployment patterns.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies, vulnerability management requirements, and audit controls.
• Troubleshoot Linux, container, and automation issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and best practices for ongoing operations.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of Linux Systems Engineering experience.
• Strong expertise administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
• Hands-on experience with Podman in enterprise environments.
• Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Strong Ansible automation and playbook development experience.
• Experience working in VMware virtualized environments.
• Knowledge of container lifecycle management and container security practices.
• Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills across Linux systems.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Terraform.
• Experience integrating infrastructure deployments with GitHub.
• Knowledge of Red Hat Satellite.
• Experience with enterprise container security standards and compliance programs.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and OpenShift environments.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise infrastructure environments.
• Financial services or highly regulated industry experience.
