About the Role
Our client is looking for a Senior Application Business Analyst to join a team that builds and enhances custom, in-house applications and integrations. These applications support operational workflows, data quality, and field and customer experiences across a large network of operational sites.

This is an application BA role, not a data or BI analyst role. You’ll develop deep functional knowledge of the team’s applications and own them over the long term: from discovery and requirements, through development with in-house engineering teams, to go-live and ongoing production sustainment.

Location
Onsite in Houston, TX, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays from home. This is not a remote role.

What You’ll Do

• Own assigned custom applications end to end, building strong functional knowledge of how they work and how the business uses them
• Lead discovery workshops and working sessions to gather, validate, and prioritize requirements for new features and enhancements
• Write clear, testable user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, and functional specifications in Jira and Confluence
• Partner with in-house developers, architects, and QA through design, build, and testing
• Map current- and future-state processes, data flows, and system dependencies
• Analyze REST APIs, JSON payloads, and integrations, and test endpoints in Postman to find gaps early
• Gather and document IAM requirements, including Okta SSO, provisioning and deprovisioning, and role-based access
• Provide ongoing production support: investigate issues in ServiceNow and Datadog, find root causes, and drive permanent fixes
• Plan tests, lead UAT, triage defects, and secure stakeholder sign-off
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
• Coordinate business, IT, engineering, QA, field operations, and vendor teams; track risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions
• Support release planning, deployment readiness, training, and the transition to operations

What You Bring

• 7+ years as an Application Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or Technical BA on enterprise applications
• Proven experience on custom-built, in-house developed applications, working directly with development teams from requirements through release
• Hands-on production sustainment experience: supporting live applications, managing enhancements and change requests, and resolving production issues
• A track record of long-term ownership of applications, with sustained involvement in the same applications over multiple years
• Hands-on API and integration analysis (REST, JSON, Postman)
• SQL skills for data validation and issue investigation
• Agile and hybrid delivery experience with Jira and Confluence
• Strong root-cause analysis, communication, and facilitation skills
• A bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Strongly Preferred

• IAM experience, especially Okta SSO or OIG, user provisioning, and access reviews
• Production support with ServiceNow and Datadog or similar monitoring tools
• Leading cross-functional workstreams, including plans, RAID logs, and status reporting to leadership

Nice to Have

• GIS, mobile, or field operations platforms
• Cloud application architectures and integration patterns
• Experience validating Power BI reports
• CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, or Agile certifications
