Location: La Verne, CA (Fully On-Site) 

Schedule: 44/36 Work Week (Monday–Thursday, every Friday off)

Pay Rate: $37.39 – $40.59/hour (DOE)

Employment Type: Contract / Temp-to-Hire (if applicable)

 

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technologist I to support a water treatment facility’s Chemistry Compliance Team. This is an entry-level laboratory role focused on routine wet chemistry analysis, sample handling, and regulatory compliance support. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining water quality standards by performing standardized laboratory procedures and supporting environmental compliance programs.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and assist with chemical and physical testing for water quality monitoring
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze samples for inorganic and organic contaminants
  • Prepare reagents, standards, and assist with data processing
  • Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware
  • Assist with chemical waste handling, decontamination, and disposal
  • Maintain and update QA/QC records and standard operating procedures
  • Support compliance with environmental laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Prepare reports and document analytical results
  • Assist with procurement requests for laboratory supplies
  • Support training of co-op students on laboratory procedures when needed

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory or related experience
  • Completion of at least 24 semester units in Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field

 

Required Knowledge

  • Chemistry or Microbiology fundamentals
  • Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Laboratory safety standards
  • Basic algebraic math
  • Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Standard office systems and technology

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Learn and apply new analytical techniques
  • Perform calculations using algebraic methods
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Work independently and collaboratively
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office applications

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field
  • At least 1 year of experience in a drinking water laboratory
  • No CalPERS membership (preferred)

 

Work Environment

  • Fully on-site role within a laboratory and water treatment facility setting
  • Combination of bench work, sample handling, and compliance documentation
  • Requires adherence to strict safety and regulatory protocols
