Summary
Pay: $21.45 - $26.45/hr; W2 contract, no PTO, no Benefits. ACA-compliant supplemental package available for enrollment.
Description:
The Data Center Technician is responsible for supporting various aspects of the data center ecosystem with an integrated focus on providing resiliency, redundancy and high availability of critical infrastructure supporting core operations. This position will work collaboratively within internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to ensure data center operations are aligned with defined requirements.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide support for new installation and migration of equipment; to include, IT hardware, cables, power distribution, and other ancillary components
- Conduct necessary maintenance and system upgrades requiring changes to infrastructure components
- Diagnose, repair, replace and/or escort vendors in support of hardware failures and remediation activities
- Decommission legacy hardware and complete required reconciliation processes
- Maintain/Install Support infrastructure. (Cable trays, PDU s, shelfs, etc.)
- Termination of copper and fiber (Fiber Quick Connect Termination Procedure)
- Document Data Center and Infrastructure processes and procedures; including DCIM installation and upkeep
- Document all new systems, changes or modifications within DCIM to include removal of all old systems
- Labeling all hardware and cable in the Data Centers; support hardware (HVAC, Conduits, and systems) as needed
- Data Center as a Service (DCaaS) - Coordinate and escort visitors. Including escorting vendors who will be repairing or conducting computer hardware and facilities maintenance.
- Energy Employee/Vendor access.
- Ensure compliance of Safety standards
- Maintenance of support services in the Data Centers
- Respond to normal and high severity incidents
- Work with Facilities to coordinate maintenance on service hardware and keep the inspections up to date.
- Must have the ability to perform complex troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development and implementation , to include other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with entry level experience [MLI1] of data center experience
- Must have the ability to work with people from various disciplines with varying degrees of technical skills in a professional manner.
- Must have the ability to work individually and collaboratively.
- Basic knowledge of fiber, copper, power cables, etc. [DC2] [CEM3]
- Basic knowledge regarding air handling hardware, generators, fire suppression hardware
- Basic knowledge on electrical (PDU & UPS), lighting, HVAC, chillers
- Must be able to follow written procedures.
- Must pass a security background check as prescribed Energy and NERC standards.
- Must accept and pass random drug testing as defined by *** Energy policy
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude while adapting to quickly changing demands.
- Excellent personal computing skills including proficiency with standard office automation software such as MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio and Outlook.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information for security compliance
- Must have an active mobile phone and be willing to use for work related calls and texts. [DC4] [CEM5] FTE (Full Time Employee) will receive a mobile phone
- Valid driver s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Have an operational and reliable personal vehicle.
- Be able to drive his/her personal vehicle to different worksites if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates or higher in a IT related field
- Certifications: CompTIA Server+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Equipment Brand Certifications (e.g., Dell, Client, IBM, etc.)
- Basic facilities knowledge: HVAC systems, Power Distribution Units, UPS Systems, etc.
