Summary

Your Opportunity

At Schwab, you're empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us "challenge the status quo" and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location.

Schwab continues to expand the role of mobile technology in how clients access information, manage their finances, and interact with digital services. As an Android Software Engineer, you will build and support native Android experiences for high-visibility, client-facing products, including emerging conversational and AI-enabled capabilities.

You will collaborate with product, design, backend, quality, and engineering partners to deliver intuitive, accessible, and reliable mobile features. Your work will span feature design, development, automated testing, service integration, production support, and continuous improvement.

This is a mobile engineering role that provides an opportunity to apply strong Android expertise while expanding your experience with conversational interfaces, AI-assisted development practices, modern architecture, and enterprise-scale mobile delivery.

What you have

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Five or more years of professional native Android development experience using Kotlin and/or Java
  • Advanced Software Development skills demonstrated through the delivery and support of scalable, maintainable Android applications
  • Strong Java or Kotlin programming skills, including object-oriented design, modular development, debugging, and code review practices
  • Experience integrating mobile applications with REST APIs, including asynchronous processing, error handling, and service troubleshooting
  • Experience developing unit tests and automated user-interface tests using tools such as Espresso, UI Automator, or Appium
  • Ability to apply User Interface Design principles to create intuitive, responsive, and accessible Android experiences
  • Experience troubleshooting application memory, performance, integration, or production issues using structured Problem-Solving methods
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, release processes, and related DevOps practices
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly across technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Clean Architecture, or comparable modern Android architecture patterns
  • Experience with reactive development frameworks such as Kotlin Flow, Coroutines, RxJava, or LiveData
  • Experience using dependency-injection frameworks such as Dagger, Hilt, or Koin
  • Experience developing accessible mobile applications using TalkBack, dynamic text, focus management, and other Android accessibility capabilities
  • Experience building chatbot, voice, streaming, or conversational user experiences within a native mobile application
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools to analyze requirements, develop implementation plans, generate code, or troubleshoot issues while independently validating quality and production readiness
  • Experience supporting Android SDK, Kotlin, operating-system, and application-store upgrades
  • Experience with test-driven development, behavior-driven development, Agile delivery, and iterative product development
  • Experience building modular, reusable mobile components for large-scale applications
  • Ability to influence technical decisions, build consensus, and work effectively through ambiguous or evolving requirements

Learning Opportunities
  • Deepen expertise in enterprise-scale Android development and modern mobile architecture
  • Build client-facing conversational, chatbot, voice, and AI-enabled mobile experiences
  • Expand knowledge of secure financial technology and high-visibility digital products
  • Strengthen experience with Jetpack Compose, modular architecture, accessibility, observability, and application performance
  • Develop practical capability with AI-assisted engineering tools, including requirement analysis, implementation planning, code generation, and validation
  • Grow technical influence through architecture discussions, design reviews, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional collaboration
  • Learn Schwab's mobile engineering standards, development practices, platform architecture, and client-experience principles

Skill Development Values

At Schwab, we hire for demonstrated capability, transferable skills, and growth potential. We value engineers who remain curious, take ownership, collaborate openly, and apply sound judgment to complex problems.

You will be encouraged to expand your skills through challenging work, knowledge sharing, technical collaboration, and hands-on learning. Our goal is to create an environment where you can strengthen your mobile engineering expertise, explore emerging technologies, and make a measurable difference in the experiences we deliver to clients.
