As one of the world's most admired brands, Toyota is growing and leading the future of mobility through innovative, high-quality solutions designed to enhance lives and delight those we serve. We're looking for talented team members who want to Dream. Do. Grow. with us.

An important part of the Toyota family is Toyota Financial Services (TFS), the finance and insurance brand for Toyota and Lexus in North America. While TFS is a separate business entity, it is an essential part of this world-changing company- delivering on Toyota's vision to move people beyond what's possible. At TFS, you will help create best-in-class customer experience in an innovative, collaborative environment.

To save time applying, Toyota does not offer sponsorship of job applicants for employment-based visas or any other work authorization for this position at this time.

Who We're Looking For

At TFS, we're building next-generation products that redefine mobility for millions of customers worldwide. We're looking for an Engineering Manager with deep front-end expertise to lead a high-performing team delivering exceptional digital experiences at scale.

This role is for someone who lives and breathes modern front-end development - someone who can architect elegant, performant UIs, mentor engineers to do their best work, and partner closely with Product and Design to ship experiences customers love. You'll own the front-end engineering strategy for your domain, driving technical decisions while keeping your team moving fast and building with quality.

This position is based in Plano, TX. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within a commutable distance of this location.

What You'll Be Doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, grow, and retain a team of front-end engineers - hiring top talent, running performance reviews, coaching, and creating clear paths for career development
  • Own the front-end architecture and technical direction for your domain, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability across all products
  • Drive engineering excellence through code quality standards, design system adoption, testing practices, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Backend Engineering to define and deliver features from concept to production
  • Champion accessibility, performance, and user experience as first-class engineering concerns
  • Establish and enforce best practices around component architecture, state management, caching strategies, and API integration patterns
  • Collaborate with platform and infrastructure teams to optimize front-end delivery pipelines, CDN strategies, and serverless deployments on AWS
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels - translating technical complexity into business impact
  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on involvement - you're comfortable reviewing PRs, unblocking engineers, and diving into hard problems when needed
  • Monitor and improve key front-end metrics: Core Web Vitals, bundle size, time-to-interactive, and error rates

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong front-end focus, including 3+ years in an engineering management or tech lead role
  • Deep expertise in React and Next.js, including App Router, SSR, SSG, ISR, and streaming patterns
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript - you write it by default and hold your team to the same standard
  • Hands-on experience with Tailwind CSS and component libraries like shadcn/ui or similar design system tooling
  • Solid understanding of state management patterns, with experience using Zustand, Redux Toolkit, or equivalent
  • Experience with schema validation and form handling using Zod or similar libraries
  • Proven ability to design and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs, with a strong grasp of API contract design, error handling, and type-safe client generation (e.g., tRPC, kubb/OpenAPI codegens)
  • Experience building and deploying front-end applications on AWS, including services like:

    • CloudFront for CDN and edge caching
    • Lambda@Edge or CloudFront Functions for serverless edge logic
    • S3 for static asset hosting
    • API Gateway + Lambda for serverless API services
  • Strong understanding of front-end performance optimization: code splitting, lazy loading, image optimization, caching strategies (HTTP cache, SWR, React Query), and bundle analysis
  • Experience with testing practices: unit testing with Vitest or Jest, component testing with Testing Library, and E2E with Playwright or Cypress
  • Familiarity with monorepo tooling (Turborepo, Nx) and modern build systems (Vite, esbuild, Webpack)
  • Excellent communication skills - you can articulate technical tradeoffs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Added bonus if you have

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in the financial services, banking, or insurance industry
  • Experience building and maintaining design systems or component libraries used across multiple teams
  • Familiarity with micro-frontend architecture patterns
  • Experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile development
  • Exposure to GenAI tooling integration in front-end products (e.g., streaming AI responses, prompt UIs)
  • Experience with event-driven architecture on AWS using services like EventBridge, SQS, SNS, and Lambda for decoupled, async workflows
  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer Associate)
  • Experience leading teams in product-driven, customer-facing SaaS companies
