JOB TITLE: CAD Technician
DURATION: 11 MONTHS
LOCATION: ONSTIE IN SEATTLE WA
PAY RATE: $28- $38 HOURLY
Job Description: We are seeking an experienced Set Up Machinist to join our advanced CNC prototype and job shop. This role is critical to our high-mix, varying-volume operations, requiring precision setup work on CNC mills and lathes to support our diverse manufacturing needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and prepare CNC mills and lathes for production runs following detailed setup sheets
- Interpret and execute complex engineering drawings with a strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric - Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices
- Verify machine calibration and perform first article inspections
- Make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications and tolerances
- Document setup procedures and maintain accurate records in our MES (Manufacturing Execution System)
- Collaborate with programmers and operators to optimize setups for efficiency and quality
- Troubleshoot setup-related issues and implement corrective actions
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following safety protocols
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of hands-on experience setting up CNC mills or lathes in a production environment
- Expert-level knowledge of GD&T and ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Proven ability to follow setup sheets and work instructions accurately
- Experience with MES systems for job tracking and documentation
- Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and fixturing methods
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMM)
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions regarding setups
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a prototype or job shop environment
- Familiarity with multiple machine brands and control systems (Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, etc.)
- Basic CNC programming knowledge
- Experience with 5-axis or mill-turn machining setups
- Training in 5S methodology and experience working in a 5S-compliant shop environment
Work Environment:
This position operates in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metal working fluids. Safety glasses and appropriate PPE are required at all times.
