Summary

A globally leading consumer device company headquartered in Cupertino, CA is seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to join their team. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundational knowledge of electronics, hands-on soldering expertise, and practical experience with fine pitch components, BGA rework, and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) processes. We are looking for someone who can contribute their existing technical knowledge from day one, while continuing to grow alongside cutting-edge product development.

Responsibilities:

•    Manage, prioritize, execute, and communicate the status of an individual queue of work requests with a strong sense of priority.
•    Perform fine pitch solder and BGA rework requests (starting under guidance, moving toward independence as skills progress).
•    Partner with program managers and engineers on work requests and project support needs, maintaining a proactive mindset to propose fixes for hardware issues.
•    Perform X-Ray analysis to verify rework results, and develop the ability to interpret X-ray imaging.
•    Report and document observed trends and issues to the engineering team.
•    Provide clear, high-quality documentation and summarize lessons learned from issues to prevent recurrence.
•    Learn about new products and technologies eagerly, and share that knowledge with the broader team.
•    Maintain composure under pressure and exercise patience when unexpected issues occur.

Minimum Qualifications:

•    5 years of experience (or an equivalent technical degree/certification) performing basic electronics rework, assembly, or testing.
•    Familiarity with reworking surface mount components, PCB repair, fly wire, trace cutting, and programming software.
•    Ability to read schematics, board layouts, and component data-sheets (to extract data such as package type, max temp, and Moisture Sensitivity Level/MLS).
•    Basic knowledge of Ohm’s Law, parallel, and serial circuits.
•    Capable of performing fine pitch solder work (e.g., 01005 size components) with high temp solder, demonstrating a willingness to improve yield and precision.
•    Basic understanding of BGA rework and reflow profiling (e.g., knowing how to select ball size, flux, and solder paste).
•    Solid basic knowledge of solder tin, flux, and PCB/FPC stackups.
•    Basic understanding of the DFM process for NPI (New Product Introduction) development.
•    Familiarity with test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Multimeters (DMM), Power Supplies, and Analyzers to measure resistance, current, and voltage.
•    Previous experience taking apart systems and carefully re-assembling them.
•    Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to interact well with multiple cross-functional groups.
•    Meticulous and careful, with a strong desire to develop hands-on hardware skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Exposure to advanced rework machines such as AirVac or SRT.
•    Past customer support or hardware troubleshooting experience.
•    Past bug reporting and ticketing experience.
•    SMT operation experience with production equipment, including: Solder Paste Printer, SPI (Solder Paste Inspection), AOI (Automated Optical Inspection), Pick & Place machine, and Reflow Oven.
