Senior Workday Financials Consultant – Public Sector ERP Implementation

What You'll Work On

The immediate priority is Foundation Data Model (FDM) design and the legacy chart-of-accounts-to-Workday transition — but the role spans the full Financials suite:

• Core Financials / FDM & Chart of Accounts – worktags/dimensions, organizations, cost centers, projects, spend categories, hierarchies, and account rationalization
• Financial Accounting & General Ledger – journals, accounting rules, allocations, fund/interfund accounting, close, and reconciliation
• Budgets & Budgetary Control – budget structures, appropriations, commitment accounting, encumbrances, amendments/transfers, budget-to-actual validation
• Projects, Grants & Governmental Accounting – capital projects, grant cost capture, sponsor/award compliance, bond/debt considerations
• Banking & Treasury – bank accounts, cash management, reconciliation, payments, and liquidity processes
• Business Assets, Expenses & Customer Accounts / Revenue – asset conversion, capitalization/depreciation, billing/receivables, revenue accounting
• Cross-Functional Awareness – Payroll/HCM costing impacts and Procurement/Procure-to-Pay dependencies
• Reporting, Security, Integrations & Data Conversion – ensuring Financials design supports audit, regulatory, and departmental reporting needs

You'll partner directly with Central Finance leadership and decentralized departmental fiscal teams (including specialized enterprise-fund operating groups), sit in system-integrator-led design sessions, and help drive testing, data conversion/reconciliation, training, and cutover readiness.

What You Bring

Required:

• 5+ years of senior-level, hands-on Workday Financial Management implementation experience
• Experience across multiple Workday Financials implementations (3+ strongly preferred)
• Deep expertise in Core Financials / FDM and chart-of-accounts design or transformation
• Strong Financial Accounting / GL knowledge — journals, close, reconciliation, fund accounting
• Broad exposure across Budgets, Projects, Grants, Banking/Treasury, Assets, Customer Accounts/Revenue, Reporting, Security, or Integrations
• Ability to think holistically across modules and spot downstream impacts before they become costly rework
• Experience supporting SIT, UAT/CAT, defect triage, and business-user coaching
• Excellent communication skills — able to challenge assumptions constructively and build confidence with senior stakeholders

Preferred:

• Direct state/local government or municipal Workday Financials implementation experience (higher education, utilities, or transportation also valued)
• Knowledge of governmental/fund accounting, grants, capital projects, and bond/debt accounting
• Legacy ERP-to-Workday migration experience (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP), particularly chart-of-accounts/FDM mapping and data conversion
• Experience working alongside a major system integrator in a client-side advisory capacity
• Workday Pro / certification in Financial Management, FDM, Budgets, Projects, Grants, Banking, Assets, or Reporting
