Position Overview
The client is looking for an Application Technical Specialist to support and maintain mission-critical legacy processing systems, particularly DCR applications running on SCO Unix/UnixWare environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain legacy DCR applications operating on SCO Unix platforms.
- Provide administration and technical support for SCO UnixWare environments.
- Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Unix shell scripts used for batch processing.
- Monitor and support mission-critical production processing systems.
- Perform flat-file processing and manage scheduled batch jobs.
- Debug, analyze, and reverse engineer legacy code with limited or outdated documentation.
- Collaborate with business users, developers, and technical teams to resolve application issues and implement enhancements.
- Evaluate system modifications and recommend improvements to application functionality and performance.
- Identify and implement best practices, standards, and process improvements.
- Coordinate development and support activities across application teams.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for application functionality, support procedures, and system changes.
- Participate in incident resolution, root cause analysis, and ongoing production support.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of overall application development experience
- 3+ years of DCR programming experience
- 3+ years of SCO UnixWare administration experience
- 3+ years of Unix Shell Scripting experience
- 3+ years of production support experience for legacy business applications
- Experience supporting legacy DCR applications on SCO Unix
- Experience with flat-file processing and batch job management
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with technical and business stakeholders
- Local candidates who can work onsite in Trenton, NJ 3 days per week
Preferred Skills
- 2+ years of experience with legacy procedural programming languages such as COBOL, RPG, or C
- Experience debugging and reverse engineering legacy applications with limited documentation
- Experience with flat-file processing environments
- Advanced skills with technologies such as SharePoint, SAP, Curam, ServiceNow, HL7, or PEGA
- Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise-level business applications
Important Requirement
The client is specifically looking for candidates with strong SCO Unix/UnixWare administration and DCR experience supporting legacy DCR applications. COBOL experience is a plus but does not replace the required DCR experience.
