The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Engineer (Electro-Optical)-Journeyman to support Integrated Combat Environment. The salary range of this position is $90,000.00 - $140,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

A typical day as an Engineer (Electro-Optical)-Journeyman may include:
  • Supports the development and operation of EO/IR simulated environments and rugged field-test infrastructure to replicate real-world scenarios for stimulation of aircraft-installed EO/IR systems
  • Develops flight, field and laboratory threat engagement scenarios using threat signature and trajectory models for open-air stimulation of IRCM and FLIR/laser designator systems
  • Builds atmospheric and terrain databases to develop realistic synthetic environments for building battlefield threat engagements in advanced EO/IR simulators
  • Maintains and operates computer image rendering systems for video transfer to ground test simulation systems
  • Performs system maintenance (a review of electrical, mechanical and optical documents and interface requirements for installed system testing)
  • Diagnoses and corrects electronic circuitry malfunctions in EO/IR equipment
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on prototyping, integration and fleet support
  • Supports test planning, execution, documentation and post-test analysis (real-time monitoring and integration with aircraft/weapons systems)
  • Develops and operates open-air target boards for installed-system flight testing to evaluate EO/IR system performance
  • Performs system capability testing for writing operational verification reports to be presented to sponsor agencies for validation to be accredited to perform developmental and operational testing
  • Participates in occasional travel for Army/Air Force/Navy test activities

Must-haves:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Aerospace, Electrical, Electro-Optical, Mechanical Engineering or related field may qualify
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with EO/IR sensor testing, calibration, precision motion systems, boresight alignment and laser pointing
  • Experience with design and assembly to maintain EO/IR test systems
  • Experience with FLIR, IRST and missile warning systems
  • Experience with laser IRCM systems
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): DoD Secret Clearance
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract

Desired Skills:
  • Master's Degree in Physics, Aerospace, Electrical or Electro-Optical Engineering
  • Experience with operation and calibration of multi-spectral (UV, Vis, IR) imaging systems
  • Experience integrating EO hardware and embedded electronics
  • Experience with atmospheric and terrain radiometric phenomenology
  • Experience with databases and computer system operation for image rendering and video transfer
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python or C++ for data analysis and test automation

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this position requires the employee to work in the field for a majority of their day (lab facilities), on site versus in an office. The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. Overnight travel will be required.

The employee is required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs. Operation of machinery to assist in the movement of heavy objects, such as forklifts and dollies, may be required.
