Location: San Diego, CA
About the Role
We are seeking a Digital Engineer to join a mission-focused engineering team working on advanced digital systems. In this role, you will design, develop, integrate, and test FPGA-based solutions that support next-generation, software-defined radio and communication systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-performance, reliable digital designs.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in technically complex environments, enjoy solving challenging problems, and are passionate about building systems that operate in real-world, mission-critical conditions.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, integrate, and test VHDL-based digital designs, with an emphasis on FPGA firmware for software-defined radio applications.
Use FPGA development tools and workflows to implement, simulate, and debug designs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Digital Engineering, and Integration & Test.
Participate in Waterfall or Agile development environments.
Analyze system concepts of operation, requirements, and design documentation to resolve functional, performance, or timing issues.
Support verification activities through testbench development and debugging at the system and board level.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or
master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
Strong, hands-on experience with VHDL design and development.
Working knowledge of formal engineering development processes, including design, verification, and documentation.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
8+ years of professional engineering experience.
Experience with VHDL verification methodologies, including OSVVM.
Experience with AMD/Xilinx FPGA families such as Zynq, Kintex, UltraScale, and Versal.
Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, and Ethernet.
Proficiency with EDA tools including Vivado, Quartus, and QuestaSim.
Experience applying FPGA physical constraints and achieving timing closure.
Experience developing testbenches and supporting formal VHDL verification.
Hands-on experience with board-level and system-level debug, using tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Experience translating system-level requirements into programmable logic requirements, design documentation, and test specifications.
Familiarity with complex communication or embedded digital systems.
