Senior Network Administrator
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Administrator to lead network support for the VA’s EHR deployment and training project. In this role, you will serve as the senior SME, providing technical mentorship to staff across multiple sites nationwide, ensuring network resolution and optimal performance. The position combines strong technical expertise with a focus on delivering excellent customer service, supporting installations, troubleshooting issues, and performing onsite tasks as needed. When not traveling, you will work at the local VA to handle daily helpdesk, system, and network support tasks.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or equivalent. Candidates with 13+ years of experience in lieu of a degree are also eligible.

Clearance Requirements
Public Trust clearance.
Work Arrangement
Onsite at VA medical center locations. Travel up to 50% of the time, typically for 1-4 weeks at a time, with frequent travel by vehicle and occasional air travel. When not traveling, work will be performed at the local VA facility.
Responsibilities
- Lead network support during the VA’s EHR deployment and training project.
- Provide technical mentorship and oversight to staff across various sites.
- Support network installation, configuration, and troubleshooting, including baseband network connectivity, internet, and Wi-Fi hardware.
- Manage hardware start-up, imaging, configuration, updates, and issue resolution.
- Deploy, set up, and maintain networking equipment throughout VA campuses and training facilities.
- Support installations during weekends or evenings as needed.
- Operate with limited supervision and deliver high-level customer service.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience designing, analyzing, configuring, or troubleshooting IP networks.
- Experience with designing, analyzing, configuring, implementing, and troubleshooting complex network architectures.
- Experience with Wi-Fi hardware—configuration, management, and issue resolution.
- Experience leading technical teams and troubleshooting across multiple sites.
- Knowledge of network hardware installation, configuration, management, and issue resolution.
- Ability to analyze network traffic and determine root causes.
- Knowledge of routing protocols and network technologies such as Fortinet routers.
- Ability to perform physical setup, unpacking, and installation of IT equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, including traversing facilities and connecting devices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to draw logical and physical network topologies using Microsoft Visio.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to safely navigate routes during travel.
Desired Skills
- Strong critical thinking and error assessment capabilities.
- Network migration experience.
- Experience working with Cisco 9300 and 9800 series switches.
- Experience with Juniper and Cisco access points.
Pay Range
Pay range: $80,000.00-$110,000.00.
This pay range is based on qualifications and experience, and assumes all role requirements are met.
