SAP Technical Analyst

Job Description:

• Someone with strong, recent S/4 and ECC experience not just testing, but true functional/technical hands-on work.
• A candidate who can read code, debug, and troubleshoot without relying heavily on developers.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing and make-to-order processes, or at least real-world exposure to those environments.
• Someone who can write both functional and technical specs, gather business requirements, and comfortably lead or participate in discussions.
• Clear, confident communication skills (this is something Duane emphasized several times).
• Bonus areas include TM, EWM, PPDS, and familiarity with Fiori. (ESPECIALLY TM)

Specifically looking for someone who knows TM (Transportation Management)

Role Summary
The Technical Analyst will support ongoing SAP ECC to S/4HANA migration, primarily across manufacturing, distribution, and logistics.
The position sits within team and requires someone who can immediately contribute to technical and functional problem-solving, debugging, and solution design in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
A second similar role is also expected to open soon (one more senior, ideally with Transportation Management [TM] expertise).

Need-to-Have Skills & Requirements

• SAP S/4HANA experience strong technical and functional knowledge (ECC experience also needed for ongoing support).
• Ability to debug ABAP code expected once or twice per week.
• Experience writing functional and technical specs, unit testing, and engaging with business users to gather requirements.
• Understanding of discrete manufacturing and make-to-order processes, including BOMs, routings, and work centers (can be taught but preferred).
• Comfortable reading code and identifying issues even if not doing heavy development.
• Strong communication skills must clearly articulate ideas, lead discussions, and collaborate cross-functionally (poor communication is a dealbreaker).
• Problem-solving mindset expected to attempt solutions before escalating.
• Comfort with limited formal training must learn on the job and be self-directed.
• Ability to work onsite in Grand Rapids (flexibility for hybrid or limited remote possible but onsite strongly preferred).
• Experience working in Agile environments using Azure DevOps.

1. SAP Technical Depth Especially Debugging (ABAP)

• Ability to read code, step through debug, identify root causes, and support ECC + S/4 issues.
• Not a developer role, but must be able to work in the guts of the system and troubleshoot independently.
• Debugging expected 1 2 times per week.

2. Manufacturing & Logistics Understanding

• Experience with discrete manufacturing, make-to-order, routings, BOMs, work centers, and production flows.
• Familiarity with modules like PP, SD, EWM, PPDS, or TM (beyond invoicing).
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions that fit real manufacturing processes.

3. Strong Functional + Technical Hybrid Skill Set

• Ability to write functional + technical specs, lead discussions, design solutions, and work directly with business users.
• Clear communication skills, ability to drive meetings, explain solutions, and collaborate with global teams.
