Job DescriptionSteam Plant Systems Engineering is seeking a Boiler Systems Engineer to join its management team. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of utility and industrial boiler systems. The ideal candidate will have a bachelors degree in engineering, strong leadership and communication skills, and experience with boiler design, operations, maintenance, and performance analysis. Expertise in conventional utility boilers, HRSGs, and package boilers, as well as combustion tuning, inspections, repairs, and testing, is required. Familiarity with auxiliary systems, environmental compliance, and industry codes (ASME, NBIC, NFPA 85) is preferred. Availability for emergency work (24/7) is essential.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Conduct system condition assessments to identify deficiencies, review equipment performance, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with internal teams and external partners.
- Review and update system descriptions, P&IDs, and design documentation.
- Perform root cause analysis for component failures and forced outages.
- Provide engineering support for steam generating stations.
- Participate in project planning, outage coordination, and construction activities.
- Develop and review acceptance test plans; oversee testing and commissioning.
- Coordinate and monitor activities of equipment and service providers.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations to support capital planning and inform management.
- Enter confined spaces, such as boilers, for inspections.
- Perform additional related tasks and assignments as needed.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of engineering work experience focused on the design, analysis, and modification of industrial systems. or
- Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of engineering work experience focused on the design, analysis, and modification of industrial systems.
Relevant Work Experience- Demonstrates strong personal accountability and adaptability to manage multiple priorities effectively, required.
- Exhibits a high energy level and promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values, required.
- Recognizes the importance of leadership, maintains a commitment to excellence, and ensures outstanding customer service, required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), required.
- Hands-on experience in electric and steam power plants, required.
- Working knowledge of high-pressure boiler operations and balance-of-plant equipment maintenance, required.
- Knowledge of State and Federal regulations affecting steam plant operations and knowledge of industry codes and standards (i.e. ASME Boiler / Pressure Vessel code and B31.1, NBIC, NFPA 85, etc.) and process safety measures, required.
- Knowledge of boiler Burner Management Systems (BMS), preferred.
Licenses and Certifications- Driver's License Required
- Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred
Physical Demands- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
Additional Physical Demands- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed.
- Ability to participate in sequence engineering program (which includes working nights, weekends, and an on-call schedule).
- Ability to travel throughout the company service territory and sites requiring support including steam and electric plants.
- Ability to climb into steam structures and the ability to work and walk in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needs arise.
