AWS DevOps Engineer / Cloud Platform Engineer

Position Overview
We are looking for AWS DevOps Engineer who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and operating the cloud infrastructure hosting the TAK Server platform supporting DOI wildfire operations. The engineer develops automated infrastructure pipelines, scalable Kubernetes deployments, and secure cloud architectures compliant with FedRAMP High and FISMA High security controls.
This role ensures the TAK environment can scale to thousands of users while maintaining high availability, disaster recovery, and continuous monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture

• Design and implement AWS cloud infrastructure supporting TAK Server deployment.
• Architect scalable and resilient environments capable of supporting 8,000+ concurrent users.
• Implement network segmentation, secure VPC architecture, and load balancing.

Infrastructure as Code

• Develop automated infrastructure using:
  • Terraform
  • CloudFormation
  • Ansible
• Maintain version-controlled infrastructure repositories.

Kubernetes Platform Engineering

• Deploy TAK Server on Kubernetes clusters for high availability and auto-scaling.
• Implement container orchestration and cluster management.
• Optimize performance for streaming situational awareness data.

CI/CD Automation

• Implement CI/CD pipelines supporting secure TAK deployments.
• Automate environment provisioning and configuration management.
• Integrate DevSecOps security scanning into build pipelines.

Security and Compliance

• Implement FedRAMP High and NIST 800-53 controls in the cloud environment.
• Configure cloud monitoring and logging solutions.
• Integrate SIEM and threat detection services.

Reliability and Monitoring

• Implement continuous monitoring and alerting for system health.
• Configure automated scaling and failover mechanisms.
• Ensure 99.9% uptime SLA for mission-critical operations.

Backup and Disaster Recovery

• Design automated backup strategies and disaster recovery procedures.
• Maintain recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).

Required Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor''''s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Experience

• 5+ years cloud infrastructure engineering
• 3+ years AWS DevOps or platform engineering
• Experience supporting FedRAMP or government cloud environments

Technical Skills

• AWS GovCloud architecture
• Kubernetes / EKS
• Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
• CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins, or GitHub)
• Docker containerization
• Linux administration

Security Knowledge

• NIST 800-53
