EMC Test Technician

Location: Irvine, CA (Hybrid)

Introduction

A leading automotive technology organization is seeking an experienced EMC Test Technician to support component and module-level EMC/EMI validation for advanced automotive electronic systems. This role is highly hands-on and focused on ensuring electronic control units (ECUs) meet rigorous EMC requirements prior to vehicle integration.

The ideal candidate will have 3-7 years of direct EMC testing experience and strong knowledge of automotive EMC standards, test equipment operation, automation platforms, and laboratory best practices. This is an individual contributor position with significant ownership and direct impact on product quality and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform component and module-level EMC/EMI testing and validation.
• Execute radiated and conducted emissions testing.
• Conduct radiated immunity, conducted immunity, BCI, DPI, transient pulse, and ESD testing.
• Operate and maintain EMC laboratory equipment including spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, RF amplifiers, antennas, and transient generators.
• Configure and execute automated EMC test sequences using industry-standard software tools.
• Generate detailed test reports and maintain test documentation.
• Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and validation activities.
• Maintain laboratory equipment calibration and testing readiness.
• Ensure compliance with applicable EMC specifications and testing standards.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• 3-7 years of hands-on EMC testing experience.
• Experience performing emissions and immunity testing.
• Strong understanding of EMC/EMI principles and RF measurement techniques.
• Experience with EMC test instrumentation and laboratory environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Required Education

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Physics, or related technical discipline preferred.
• Equivalent experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• iNARTE EMC Technician or Engineer Certification.
• Experience supporting ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories.
• Experience with EV/HEV component EMC testing.
• Experience with antenna measurement and OTA testing.
• Familiarity with EMC diagnostic and pre-compliance techniques.
• RF shielding and filtering experience.
