Be our next Senior Resident Engineer - Transit & Rail!

Your work environment at EXP

In this role you will be a part of the infrastructure group in the Northeast market. We are an entrepreneurial, multidisciplinary firm with a history of successfully delivering some of the most complex infrastructure projects across North America. We are currently looking to grow and enhance our transit, rail control systems, structural, roadway, and tunneling practices and are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Senior Resident Engineer to support major transit and rail construction projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Lead construction oversight activities on transit, rail, station, tunnel, structural, electrical, and communications infrastructure projects.
  • Direct and supervise construction field staff, inspectors, and engineering personnel.
  • Review project activities with owners, contractors, utilities, and stakeholders to resolve construction issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Interpret complex contract plans, specifications, design documents, and construction requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance, quality, safety compliance, and progress against approved schedules.
  • Review and respond to RFIs, shop drawings, technical submittals, contractor means and methods, and construction correspondence.
  • Administer construction contracts, change orders, claims, payment reviews, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate track outages, power outages, force-account activities, and construction sequencing in active operating environments.
  • Lead project meetings and serve as the primary liaison between client organizations, contractors, utilities, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and reporting requirements.
  • Support system startup, testing, commissioning, FAT/SAT/FIT activities, and project closeout documentation.
  • Mentor resident engineers, inspectors, and construction management staff.

What your experience looks like
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline.
  • 25+ years of construction engineering, inspection, and construction management experience on transit, rail, transportation, or infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive experience serving as Resident Engineer, Chief Resident Representative, Senior Field Inspector, or Construction Manager on increasingly complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong background in transit, rail, station, tunnel, structural, electrical, traction power, communications, and systems infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience performing contractor oversight, QA/QC reviews, safety compliance monitoring, RFI and submittal review, and construction contract administration.
  • Experience managing contractor payments and budgets.
  • Experience coordinating with public agencies, transit authorities, contractors, utilities, and operating railroads.
  • Knowledge of Primavera Unifier, ASITE, construction management systems, and project controls tools.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials preferred.
  • Track safety training, rail safety certifications, and experience working in active revenue service environments preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience directing multidisciplinary construction teams.
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and outage windows as required by project needs.

The pay range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.

In addition to competitive pay, we offer a comprehensive benefits package for all full-time employees, including health insurance, vacation time, and 401(k) retirement benefits.
