Job Description

Joining Amex Tech means discovering and shaping your contribution to something big. Here, you can work alongside talented tech teams and build a unique career with the Powerful Backing of American Express. With a range of opportunities to work with the latest technologies, and a commitment to back the broader engineering community through open source, our mission is to power your success. Because Amex Tech is powered by our technology, our culture, and our colleagues.

The Technology organization enables and accelerates the company's growth strategies, delivering global capabilities and services in support of Amex's customers and colleagues, while maintaining 24/7 servicing and availability to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality customer experience. Technology provides the foundation for everything we do in the company while driving differentiation through building and leveraging innovative technology and data insights.

The U.S. Consumer Services and Membership Digital Experiences Technology team (USCDT) brings together foundational strategic technology capabilities in digital experience engineering (Mobile and Web), marketing and advertising technology, enterprise communications, travel and lifestyle, and dining technology. It employs a ground-breaking focus with development responsibilities for customer-facing capabilities that deepen and expand digital engagement, as well as core technical capabilities that cut across business lines and customer
segments.

Within US Consumer & Digital Technology, the Cross Platform Delivery organization enables the successful delivery of approximately 45 enterprise-wide initiatives spanning technology, product, and business organizations. Our mission is to orchestrate complex delivery across platforms, improve release confidence, accelerate decision making, and provide executive visibility into enterprise execution.

As part of our future-state operating model, we are establishing a new Delivery Intelligence & Automation Office to transform how delivery is managed across the enterprise. This organization will leverage AI, automation, predictive analytics, and delivery intelligence to reduce operational overhead, improve organizational efficiency, and enable our delivery leaders to focus on strategic execution.

As Director of the Delivery Intelligence & Automation Office, you will define and lead the strategy for modernizing enterprise delivery through AI-enabled capabilities, intelligent automation, and data-driven operational insights.

You will partner closely with Delivery leaders, Engineering, Product, Enterprise Architecture, and Data organizations to create scalable solutions that improve delivery transparency, automate manual processes, surface predictive risks, and strengthen executive decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the vision and roadmap for Delivery Intelligence and Automation across the Cross Platform Delivery organization.
  • Lead the design and implementation of AI-enabled capabilities that improve delivery planning, dependency management, reporting, governance, and operational workflows.
  • Drive automation of manual delivery activities including executive reporting, status synthesis, coordination workflows, and governance processes.
  • Build predictive delivery intelligence capabilities that proactively identify execution risks, dependency bottlenecks, release readiness concerns, and delivery trends.
  • Develop enterprise dashboards and delivery telemetry that provide real-time visibility into portfolio health, execution progress, and organizational performance.
  • Partner with Engineering, Data, Product, and Enterprise Architecture teams to integrate AI and automation capabilities into enterprise delivery processes.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, workflow automation platforms, and productivity tools to identify practical applications that improve enterprise execution.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that simplify delivery operations while maintaining strong governance, quality, and regulatory controls.
  • Define operational metrics, KPIs, and success measures that demonstrate improvements in delivery efficiency, organizational productivity, and executive visibility.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team focused on delivery intelligence, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled operational transformation.
  • Influence senior technology leaders and executives through data-driven insights, strategic recommendations, and measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience leading large-scale technology delivery, portfolio management, enterprise transformation, or operational excellence initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience driving cross-functional programs across engineering, product, technology, and business organizations.
  • Experience implementing automation, AI-enabled workflows, advanced analytics, or intelligent reporting solutions within large enterprises.
  • Strong understanding of software delivery lifecycles, Agile delivery practices, portfolio management, and enterprise governance.
  • Experience building executive dashboards, delivery metrics, and operational insights that influence strategic decision making.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change and simplify complex operational processes through technology and automation.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams while fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience applying Generative AI, machine learning, or intelligent automation to improve enterprise operations or delivery management.
  • Familiarity with enterprise workflow automation platforms, analytics tools, and AI productivity solutions.
  • Experience working with delivery management platforms such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, Power BI, Tableau, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of predictive analytics, process mining, delivery telemetry, or operational intelligence capabilities.
  • Experience within financial services or other highly regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated success building new organizational capabilities or leading enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Leadership Expectations
  • The Director will serve as the strategic leader for the Delivery Intelligence & Automation Office, responsible for establishing a new enterprise capability that augments-not replaces-our delivery expertise through intelligent automation and AI. Success in this role will be measured by the ability to:
  • Reduce manual reporting and coordination effort through automation.
  • Increase executive visibility through real-time delivery intelligence.
  • Improve delivery predictability through proactive risk identification.
  • Expand the effectiveness and capacity of delivery leaders through AI-enabled insights.
  • Foster a culture of continuous innovation while maintaining strong governance and execution excellence.

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
