Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced MongoDB Database Administrator (DBA) to design, deploy, administer, secure, and optimize enterprise-scale MongoDB environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in MongoDB Replica Sets, Sharded Clusters, Ops Manager, Backup & Restore, Security, Performance Tuning, and AWS migration.

The role requires hands-on experience with MongoDB cluster architecture, Linux administration, Python/Shell scripting, MongoDB security (X.509, TLS, SSL), high availability, and database migration in production environments.



Key Responsibilities

MongoDB Administration

  • Design, install, configure, and administer MongoDB Replica Sets and Sharded Clusters.
  • Deploy and manage highly available MongoDB environments on Linux.
  • Configure and maintain MongoDB clusters for enterprise applications.
  • Perform capacity planning, cluster expansion, and node management.



Cluster Management

  • Configure Replica Sets and Sharded Clusters.
  • Add and remove shard and replica nodes.
  • Convert Replica Sets into Sharded Clusters to support growing data volumes.
  • Manage Config Servers and Mongos routers.
  • Ensure balanced shard distribution across clusters.



MongoDB Operations Manager (Ops Manager)

  • Install and configure MongoDB Ops Manager.
  • Onboard Replica Sets and Sharded Clusters into Ops Manager.
  • Upgrade and maintain Ops Manager environments.
  • Manage Projects, Groups, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Configure alerts, monitoring, and operational reporting.



Backup, Restore & Automation

  • Configure MongoDB Backup & Restore Services (BRS).
  • Automate backup, restore, monitoring, and health-check processes.
  • Develop automation scripts using Python and Shell scripting.
  • Perform disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Ensure data availability and recovery readiness.



MongoDB Security

  • Implement MongoDB authentication and authorization.
  • Configure:
    • X.509 Authentication
    • TLS/SSL Encryption
    • Certificate Management
    • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards.
  • Perform database auditing and security hardening.



Performance Tuning

  • Monitor and optimize MongoDB performance.
  • Analyze query execution plans.
  • Optimize:
    • Indexes
    • Query performance
    • Memory utilization
    • Storage
    • CPU usage
  • Implement text indexes, compound indexes, and efficient indexing strategies.



Sharding & Replication

  • Configure:
    • Range-based Sharding
    • Hash-based Sharding
  • Monitor replication lag and failover.
  • Ensure even data distribution across shards.
  • Troubleshoot replication and cluster performance issues.



Migration & Upgrades

  • Upgrade MongoDB environments (e.g., 4.x to later versions).
  • Migrate MongoDB clusters to AWS.
  • Plan and execute production database migrations.
  • Support zero or minimal downtime upgrades.



Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor cluster health and availability.
  • Troubleshoot database performance, replication, and connectivity issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis.
  • Resolve production incidents and outages.



Documentation

  • Maintain documentation for:
    • Cluster architecture
    • Backup procedures
    • Security standards
    • Operational runbooks
    • Upgrade procedures
  • Document installation, monitoring, auditing, and disaster recovery processes.



Collaboration

  • Work closely with Developers, Infrastructure Teams, DevOps Engineers, and Cloud Architects.
  • Support production deployments and database releases.
  • Participate in on-call support and incident response.
  • Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-8 years of experience as a MongoDB DBA or NoSQL Database Administrator.
  • Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB Replica Sets and Sharded Clusters.
  • Expertise in MongoDB Ops Manager and Backup & Restore Services.
  • Experience implementing MongoDB security using X.509, TLS, and SSL.
  • Strong Linux administration skills.
  • Experience with Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience performing MongoDB upgrades and migrations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
