Location: Remote role (Preferably near Maryland)

Duration: 12+ Months Contract (W2 / 1099 Only)

Job Description:

Senior Storage Engineer – IBM DS8000 & VTS (z/OS) Administration and Support

 

Roles and Responsibilities

·        Administer and support IBM DS8000 (DS8A00 series) storage systems in enterprise mainframe environments.

·       Manage and maintain IBM Virtual Tape Server (VTS) infrastructure and tape virtualization solutions.

·       Configure, monitor, and optimize z/OS storage environments, including DASD and tape subsystems.

·       Perform storage provisioning, allocation, and deallocation activities for mainframe applications.

·       Implement and manage DFSMS, SMS, HSM, and ACS routines for automated storage management.

·       Configure and support replication technologies such as PPRC, Metro Mirror, and Global Mirror.

·       Monitor storage performance and conduct capacity planning to ensure optimal utilization and growth.

·       Perform storage migration, hardware refreshes, and technology upgrades with minimal downtime.

·       Support backup and recovery processes using tools such as DFSMSdss, FDR, and tape management systems.

·       Troubleshoot storage-related incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

·       Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and business continuity of storage systems.

·       Collaborate with system programmers, DBAs, application teams, and infrastructure teams to resolve storage issues.

·       Implement storage security, encryption, and compliance controls in accordance with organizational standards.

·       Develop and maintain operational documentation, procedures, and storage architecture diagrams.

·       Participate in on-call support and provide 24x7 production support for critical storage environments.

·       Automate routine tasks using JCL, REXX, or scripting tools to improve operational efficiency.

·       Plan and execute firmware upgrades and maintenance activities for storage subsystems.

·       Monitor and manage storage alerts, thresholds, and performance metrics using enterprise monitoring tools.
