Summary

We are seeking an experienced Capital Markets Finance Systems Design Consultant to join a major global financial institution as it transitions from concept to detailed design for a strategic, enterprise-wide Capital Markets Finance system. This multi-year program will deliver a unified platform supporting multi-entity, multi-currency, and multi-product operations across the firm’s global capital markets businesses. The consultant will play a critical role in translating high-level conceptual architecture and business requirements into robust functional, process, data, and technical designs that meet regulatory, operational, risk, and finance needs.

The qualified candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead and contribute to the design of end-to-end finance processes and system capabilities for capital markets products (including but not limited to equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives, commodities, and structured products).
  • Translate conceptual models into detailed functional designs, process flows, data models, and interface specifications covering multi-entity structures, multi-currency accounting, product hierarchies, and intercompany transactions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Front Office, Risk, Operations, Technology, and Regulatory Reporting to elicit, refine, and prioritize detailed requirements.
  • Design solutions that address complex capital markets finance topics such as trade lifecycle accounting, valuations, P&L attribution, balance sheet and P&L control, hedge accounting, fair value hierarchy, and regulatory capital impacts.
  • Define data architecture, master data management approaches, and reporting frameworks to support enterprise-wide consistency and auditability.
  • Develop and document target operating model implications, control frameworks, and system integration points with existing trading, risk, settlement, and general ledger platforms.
  • Facilitate design workshops, produce high-quality design artefacts (including process maps, data dictionaries, user stories/epics, and solution blueprints), and support design governance and decision forums.
  • Identify gaps, risks, and dependencies between current-state systems and the target design; propose pragmatic mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure designs align with global regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRS 9/13, Basel, local GAAP variations) and internal control standards.
  • Support the transition toward detailed design sign-off and preparation for subsequent build and implementation phases.

The qualified candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  • Significant experience (typically 8–12+ years) in capital markets finance, product control, financial systems, or related consulting roles within global banks or tier-1 financial institutions.
  • Proven track record designing or implementing enterprise finance or product control systems that support multi-entity, multi-currency, and multi-product environments.
  • Strong domain knowledge of capital markets products, trade lifecycle, valuation methodologies, accounting treatments, and related finance processes.
  • Hands-on experience with the design of finance systems architecture, data models, and integration patterns in complex banking environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in large-scale transformation programs, moving initiatives from conceptual/architecture stages into detailed design.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills across front-to-back and finance functions.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills; ability to produce clear, structured design artefacts suitable for both business and technical audiences.
  • Experience with major capital markets or finance platforms (e.g., Murex, Calypso, Summit, Wall Street, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent custom/in-house systems).
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting, capital calculations, or risk systems integration.
  • Prior consulting experience with global financial institutions on similar enterprise programs.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CFA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) and/or advanced degree in finance, accounting, or related field are a plus.

This role offers the opportunity to shape a foundational system that will underpin the firm’s capital markets finance operations for years to come. Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced, high-visibility environment with significant stakeholder interaction across global locations.

This opportunity is based in NYC and follows a hybrid work schedule (3 days in the office).  For additional information and immediate consideration, please email your resume.
