Summary

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on ERP Data Migration & Quality Consultant to lead our pre-migration data readiness workstream. The primary mission of this role is to take ownership of the first three phases of our data migration lifecycle—Profiling, Cleansing, and Mapping—to ensure our enterprise datasets are fully optimized, standardized, and validated before our primary ERP implementation partner is onboarded.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in financial data structures, legacy database extractions, and target-to-source schema alignment. They will act as the technical bridge between our internal business division leads and the incoming software integration vendor, transforming legacy operational dependencies into clean, modern data models.

Core Responsibilities

  • Data Profiling & Quality Analysis: Audit, profile, and analyze legacy transactional databases, custom application tables, and external flat-file registries to systematically uncover schema anomalies, orphan records, missing fields, and formatting discrepancies. Summarize findings in a comprehensive Data Quality Report.
  • Automated Data Cleansing & Normalization: Establish logical data cleansing rules and automated transformation logic to purge duplicates, strip malformed data strings, standardize dates to uniform formats, and correct formatting errors across core tables.
  • Multi-Dimensional Schema Mapping: Design and document source-to-target mapping specifications for financial ledger structures. Partner with finance leads to map legacy flat charts of accounts to a modern, multi-dimensional ledger tagging architecture.
  • Operational Integration Alignment: Build data mapping crosswalks for operational spoke systems (such as HRIS/payroll platforms, point-of-sale systems, and custom customer-relationship databases) to ensure transaction-level integrity is preserved across integrations.
  • Legacy Logic Extraction: Collaborate with internal system developers and business analysts to interpret procedural business rules embedded in legacy application source files and document them as platform-agnostic, rules-based decision tables.
  • Data Masking & Security Standards: Partner with security and IT infrastructure teams to implement static and dynamic data masking (SDM/DDM) policies to ensure employee and customer PII remains fully anonymized and protected in lower training and development environments.
  • Reconciliation & Archival Strategy: Assist in defining data retention and lifecycle boundaries to extract and offload inactive historical records (older than 7 years) to a read-only compliance archive, keeping the new active production core lean.

Required Experience & Technical Qualifications

  • Enterprise System Transitions: 5+ years of dedicated experience executing data migrations, database refactoring, or ETL/ELT pipeline optimization during large-scale enterprise financial software transitions.
  • Advanced Database and Querying Skills: Exceptional proficiency in writing complex SQL queries and utilizing relational database management systems (RDBMS) to profile and manipulate large datasets.
  • Flat-File/Fixed-Width File Ingestion: Proven experience parsing, transforming, and validating highly rigid, complex fixed-width flat files or public data registries without destroying metadata formatting.
  • Modern Schema Mapping: Strong background in source-to-target field mapping, data lineage mapping, and schema reconciliation.
  • Data Governance & Compliance: Solid understanding of data privacy frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO, or PCI standards) and practical experience applying cryptographic and data-masking controls (SDM/DDM) to protect sensitive data.
  • ETL/ELT Tool Literacy: Hands-on experience with industry-standard data integration suites (such as Azure Data Factory, Talend, Microsoft SSIS, AWS DMS, or equivalent modern iPaaS tools).

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills

  • Experience migrating or extracting data from legacy ERP systems (such as older editions of Infor/Lawson, JD Edwards, Oracle, or AS400 platforms).
  • Ability to read or conceptually interpret legacy application code bases to extract operational logic.
  • Experience working within public sector, municipal, utility, or nonprofit financial environments.
