Role Title: Senior Java Developer

Client/Project: Resource Industries Operations & Products (RIOP) IT – Application Engineering

Duration: 6 Months

Location: Decatur, IL (Preferred) | East Peoria, IL (Alternate)

Work Model: 100% Onsite, 5 days/week

About the Role:

Our client is a Fortune 100 manufacturer of heavy equipment, engines, and machinery used across mining, construction, and other resource-intensive industries. The Resource Industries Operations & Products (RIOP) IT organization supports the enterprise systems, applications, and integrations that power manufacturing, product support, and operations functions for this business. The team is seeking a Senior Java Developer to design, build, and support Java-based applications, services, APIs, and integrations within a large, complex enterprise environment. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role requiring strong technical depth, the ability to work independently, and close collaboration with both technical and business stakeholders over a focused six-month engagement, fully onsite at the client's Decatur, IL facility (East Peoria, IL as the alternate site).

Responsibilities:

·       Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Java-based applications, services, APIs, and integrations as assigned by the client.

·       Analyze approved functional and technical requirements and translate them into maintainable, well-engineered software solutions.

·       Produce source code, configuration changes, unit tests, and supporting technical documentation in client-approved repositories and formats.

·       Participate in technical design reviews, code reviews, backlog refinement, sprint planning, demonstrations, and delivery-status reviews applicable to assigned work.

·       Perform unit and integration testing; support system and user-acceptance testing; investigate and correct defects attributable to delivered work.

·       Troubleshoot application, interface, data, performance, and deployment issues associated with assigned deliverables.

·       Support client-approved deployment and stabilization activities, including production defect analysis when assigned.

·       Identify and communicate technical risks, dependencies, constraints, and blockers early enough to support timely resolution.

·       Provide ongoing knowledge transfer to designated client personnel and complete end-of-engagement transition documentation.

Technical Competencies:

·       Core Java (Java 8/11/17) with strong object-oriented design and problem-solving skills.

·       Spring Framework / Spring Boot for building services, REST APIs, and enterprise integrations.

·       Design and consumption of RESTful (and/or SOAP) web services; familiarity with API gateways and integration patterns.

·       Strong SQL and relational database experience (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) – schema design, query tuning, stored procedures.

·       Unit and integration testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, or equivalent) and test-driven development practices.

·       Build and CI/CD tooling (Maven/Gradle, Git, Jenkins/Azure DevOps or equivalent) in an enterprise delivery pipeline.

·       Application and interface troubleshooting across data, performance, and deployment layers in a production support capacity.

·       Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum ceremonies – sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and status reviews.

Behavioural Competencies:

·       Capable of working independently in a large, complex enterprise environment with minimal day-to-day direction.

·       Strong collaborator who partners effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

·       Clear written and verbal communicator; able to produce client-ready technical documentation and status updates.

·       Proactive in surfacing risks, dependencies, and blockers early to support on-time delivery.

·       Dependable and delivery-focused, with a strong sense of ownership over assigned work through to production stabilization.

·       Comfortable mentoring and transferring knowledge to client personnel, including formal end-of-engagement transition.

Required Qualifications:

·       6+ years of professional Java development experience, including senior-level ownership of application design and delivery.

·       Hands-on experience with Spring/Spring Boot, REST API development, and enterprise application integration.

·       Strong SQL and relational database skills; experience with enterprise-scale data models.

·       Proven experience with unit/integration testing, code reviews, and Agile/Scrum delivery practices.

·       Experience troubleshooting production issues across application, interface, data, and deployment layers.

·       Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

·       Must be able to work 100% onsite, 5 days per week, for the full duration of the engagement.

·       Must be based at or willing to relocate (at own cost) to Decatur, IL, or East Peoria, IL as the alternate location, with no relocation/housing assistance provided.

·       Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the engagement.
