What You'll Do:

As the Senior Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for the design, integration, testing, and sustainment of advanced Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training systems supporting Navy and coalition warfighter readiness. The selected candidate will lead systems engineering efforts across a complex environment that integrates operational platforms, simulation technologies, secure networks, and mission systems to deliver realistic, high-fidelity combat training against emerging threats.

This position will be based at the NAS Oceana Dam Neck Annex in Virginia Beach, VA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support modeling and simulation environments that replicate advanced threat systems.
  • Integrate sensor, command-and-control, and weapons-system representations into training events.
  • Enable distributed exercises connecting ships, aircraft, tactical operations centers, and simulators across multiple locations.
  • Ensure realistic data feeds, threat representations, and training scenarios accurately reflect current operational environments.
  • Lead the design, integration, and sustainment of complex LVC training systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop system architectures, interface requirements, and technical roadmaps to support evolving training capabilities.
  • Analyze operational requirements and translate them into system-level technical solutions.
  • Oversee integration of live platforms, virtual simulators, and constructive simulation environments.
  • Manage system requirements throughout the lifecycle, ensuring traceability from mission needs to implementation.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including system specifications, interface control documents, and design artifacts.
  • Conduct technical reviews, design reviews, and engineering assessments.
  • Support configuration management and change control processes.
  • Ensure infrastructure can support large-scale, geographically dispersed exercises involving multiple participants and simulations.
  • Coordinate with fleet representatives to ensure training capabilities align with operational needs.
  • This position may require up to 25% annual travel.

This description outlines the general nature and scope of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or a related STEM degree, required.
  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience supporting complex Department of Defense (DoD) programs, including system architecture, requirements development, integration, testing, and lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, integrating, and sustaining Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training environments, including distributed simulation systems, tactical networks, and multi-domain training capabilities.
  • Experience translating operational and mission requirements into technical solutions, including development of system specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), engineering documentation, and technical roadmaps.
  • Proven ability to lead technical integration efforts involving multiple stakeholders, ensuring interoperability of live platforms, virtual simulators, constructive simulations, command-and-control systems, sensors, and weapons system representations in support of large-scale training exercises.

Equally Important:
  • Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams and with external partners.
  • Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Proactive, self-directed work style with the ability to operate independently.
  • Analytical thinker with proven problem-solving capabilities.
