A large, independent power generation facility in New York City is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Supervisor to lead and coordinate plant I&C maintenance activities. This role supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a major generating station and is critical to long-term asset performance and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to plant maintenance leadership, this position oversees I&C technicians responsible for inspecting, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems across the facility. The role requires a strong technical foundation, proven leadership ability, and comfort working in complex industrial environments.
Duties
- Supervise, coordinate, and direct daily work activities of Instrumentation & Controls technicians
- Ensure maintenance work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with plant and regulatory standards
- Perform system condition assessments, document findings, and implement corrective actions
- Support performance, reliability, and availability improvement initiatives using plant and industry tools
- Participate in project planning and execution, including scope reviews, design basis evaluations, walk-downs, compliance verification, and acceptance testing
- Plan and support scheduled outages and major equipment overhauls
- Lead root cause analyses for equipment failures and forced outages, driving corrective and preventive actions
- Coordinate and monitor work performed by third-party contractors and service providers
- Document, track, and resolve unplanned design or configuration changes
- Maintain accurate technical and design documentation
- Provide technical support to plant leadership and maintenance teams
- Prepare technical reports and contribute to capital planning discussions
- Participate in cross-functional teams and industry working groups as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Skills
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance within a large process industry (power generation, refining, oil & gas, marine, or similar)
- 4+ years of supervisory experience required
- Strong working knowledge of control system design, operation, maintenance, testing, and analysis
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- PLCs
- Client systems
- Low-voltage switchgear, breakers, and power cables (up to 480V)
- UPS systems and Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Proficiency in equipment sizing, lifecycle management, protection schemes, relay settings, and PLC programming
- Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and specifications
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical personnel
- Prior experience supervising a unionized workforce strongly preferred
Bachelor s degree in engineering or related discipline preferred (or equivalent experience)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor industrial environments, year-round
- Exposure to heat, heights, high-voltage areas, confined spaces, fuel systems, marine environments, and other industrial conditions
- Required use of PPE, including respirators or SCBA as necessary
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work at heights
- Ability to perform work in confined spaces and near active waterways
Schedule
- Typical schedule aligns with plant operations: approximately 6:30 AM 4:00 PM, Monday Friday
- Overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays required based on plant and equipment needs
