Position Overview
The Senior Website Designer/Manager will support the NSF Web Team in designing, managing, and publishing digital content across NSF.gov and the NSF Employee Portal. This role involves creating accessible, user-friendly, and compliant web content using Drupal CMS, ServiceNow, and Microsoft SharePoint.
The selected candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders, provide web design guidance, ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards, and maintain high-quality web content aligned with federal web design and usability standards.
Key Responsibilities
Web Content Management
- Support the NSF Web Team responsible for publishing and maintaining external content on NSF.gov and internal content on the NSF Employee Portal.

- Respond to publishing and editing requests from NSF staff.

- Create and maintain webpages, news updates, events, guidance documents, and other web content using Drupal CMS, ServiceNow Employee Center, and Microsoft SharePoint.

- Format and upload PDFs, images, and multimedia files for optimized web display.

Web Design & Development
- Design and develop web pages using Drupal Layout Builder and components.

- Create clear, engaging webpage layouts following modern web design standards and usability best practices.

- Ensure all content and layouts comply with WCAG 2.0 / Section 508 accessibility standards and federal plain language requirements.

- Apply best practices for search engine optimization (SEO).

Customer Support & Request Management
- Provide timely and high-quality support to NSF staff.

- Manage incoming web requests and issues using the NSF Web Team ticketing system (ServiceNow and Microsoft Lists).

- Monitor ticket dashboards to ensure requests are prioritized, tracked, and resolved efficiently.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Advise NSF staff on web design best practices, including layout consistency, accessibility compliance, and visual engagement.

- Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate them into effective web solutions.

- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including federal agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners.

Additional Duties
- Participate in special web initiatives and digital communication projects.

- Perform other related duties as assigned by OLPA (Office of Legislative and Public Affairs) staff.

Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Web Development, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Experience
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in web development and web design.

- At least 3 years of experience working within a Drupal CMS environment, including Layout Builder and component-based design.

- Experience working in federal government or similar large-scale organizational environments is highly preferred.
