Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS, a 100% employee-owned federal government contractor, is seeking a Tier II Linux Systems Administrator to support a classified High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment in Arlington, VA.

Are you an experienced Linux administrator with strong system fundamentals wanting to expand your skillset into HPC environments? If so, this role is for you! You will work alongside senior system administrators and engineers, receiving hands-on exposure to HPC platforms, distributed storage, and advanced computing technologies while supporting secure, production Linux systems.

This position includes a $5,000 Sign-on Bonus on top of a comprehensive compensation package!

Responsibilities

As a Tier II Linux Systems Administrator with AMERICAN SYSTEMS supporting HPC environments, you will have the opportunity to do the following:
  • Provide Tier II Linux systems administration support for HPC users with professional, responsive customer service
  • Support day-to-day operations and maintenance of HPC compute, storage, and networking environments
  • Assist senior system administrators in optimizing hardware and software performance
  • Ensure availability, integrity, and reliability of servers, workstations, and data storage systems, including Lustre and Bright Cluster
  • Administer and manage Linux user accounts, groups, and permissions
  • Triage Tier I/II service desk tickets and produce basic service metrics and reports
  • Support installation, configuration, and testing of HPC system components, including compute servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and peripherals
  • Assist with Linux server configuration, backup operations, and security-related tasks
  • Perform hardware replacements not covered by vendor maintenance agreements
  • Assist network personnel with equipment configuration, firewall support, and network security activities
  • Implement program security requirements and comply with RMF controls
  • Adhere to all IT policies, processes, and procedures
  • Manage changing priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5-7 years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems administration experience in production environments
  • Experience providing Tier I or Tier II operational support, including troubleshooting and ticket triage

Technical Requirements
  • Hands-on Linux administration experience, including user management, permissions, services, and system monitoring
  • Scripting experience using BASH or Python for system administration tasks
  • Experience supporting VMware vSphere environments
  • Working knowledge of RMF and Linux system hardening

Certifications
  • Current DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE or equivalent)
  • Current RHCSA / RHCE certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

Beneficial Experience / Qualifications:
  • Exposure to high-performance computing, research, or lab-based environments
  • Familiarity with distributed storage or cluster management tools; Lustre or Bright Cluster experience is a plus
  • Exposure to automation, containerization, or orchestration tools such as Ansible, Docker/Podman, or Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with databases such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience supporting GPU-enabled systems or AI/ML toolsets (CUDA, TensorFlow)

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $91,600.00/Yr. - USD $153,000.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
