Summary

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Center Facilities SME to lead the design, scalability, and future-proofing of enterprise data centers supporting an electric utility. You will partner with Architecture & Engineering (A&E), project delivery teams, and executive stakeholders to deliver resilient, code-compliant, and cost-optimized critical facilities. This is a remote-first contract role with periodic regional travel to Northeast data center sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Owner s Representative during design, construction, and commissioning phases
  • Define foundational DC building blocks: power architecture, cooling, networking, carrier diversity, and utility interconnections
  • Engineer high-availability, fault-tolerant, and resilient facility designs that eliminate single points of failure
  • Develop scalable, future-proof roadmaps addressing technology insertion, modular expansion, and reconfigurable spaces
  • Enforce physical & cybersecurity standards to defend against environmental, operational, and human threats
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, ISO, TIA-942, NFPA, NEC, and state/local building codes
  • Balance performance with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO); recommend technologies that align long-term growth with budget efficiency
  • Lead design reviews, vendor evaluations, and stakeholder alignment sessions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or related field
  • 7 10+ years designing, commissioning, or operating enterprise/utility-scale data centers
  • Proven expertise in: power distribution (MV/LV, UPS, generators), cooling/thermal management, redundancy architectures (N+1, 2N, 2N+1)
  • Direct experience with NERC compliance, utility reliability standards, or critical infrastructure regulatory frameworks
  • Strong background in Owner s Rep, design review, or capital project delivery for mission-critical facilities
  • Excellent analytical, stakeholder management, and technical documentation skills
  • Ability to travel ~10 20% to Northeast US sites (travel expenses fully reimbursed)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications: CDCP/CDCS/CDCE, PE License, CEM, BICSI, or Uptime Institute Accredited
  • Hands-on experience with modular switchgear, hot/cold aisle containment, liquid cooling, or AI-ready infrastructure
  • Familiarity with DCIM, BMS, or digital twin modeling tools
  • Prior consulting or fractional SME experience in utility, colocation, or hyperscale environments
