Network Engineer Job Description

• Role: Network Engineer (Advanced)
• Location: Remote (occasional onsite work with advance notice)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, manage, and troubleshoot on-premises and cloud network architectures aligned with business goals
• Configure and maintain network switches, routing, VLANs, VPNs, and CSP circuits (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute)
• Provide advanced technical support for escalated network-related issues
• Decommission legacy network components in collaboration with City staff, ensuring minimal disruption
• Optimize network performance and resource utilization through systematic removal of obsolete segments
• Create detailed network diagrams and maintain up-to-date infrastructure documentation
• Conduct performance testing to validate scalability and efficiency
• Deliver training and knowledge transfer to City staff on network processes
• Provide weekly and monthly status reports and facilitate status meetings on progress, risks, and delivery concerns

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (from a recognized four-year college/university)
• 5+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or in a similar role
• Proven track record designing and managing robust on-premises and cloud network architectures
• Demonstrated technical proficiency in:
  • Network switches and routing protocols
  • VLANs and VPNs
  • CSP circuits (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute)
• Strong expertise in network design, legacy infrastructure decommissioning, and enterprise performance optimization
• Proficiency in creating detailed network diagrams and documentation
• 3+ years of project management and leadership experience
• Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Preferred Certifications (Advantageous)

• Cisco: CCNA, CCNP
• AWS Certified Advanced Networking
• Microsoft AZ-700 (Azure Network Engineer )
