Summary

Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer (Grid Modernization & DERMS)

Role Overview
We are seeking a high-level Senior Systems Engineer to lead the technical commissioning and lifecycle management of our Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). In this role, you will be the technical authority ensuring the interoperability of grid-edge devices, managing complex API integrations, and overseeing the deployment of site-specific control schemes. You will act as the bridge between Distribution Operations Engineers, external aggregators, and IT support teams to move projects from contract signing to full SCADA release. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in the IEEE 2030.5 protocol and possesses a strong background in maintaining high-availability hybrid cloud environments for critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Site Commissioning & Oversight: Take full accountability for the technical commissioning schedule of DER sites, coordinating deliverables such as single-line diagrams, control scheme documentation, and SCADA release letters.
Interoperability Testing: Lead interoperability validation for new and existing vendors, ensuring all field devices meet strict compliance and SQCDM requirements.
Platform Support & Maintenance: Provide Tier 1 technical support for the DERMS platform. Triage complex cases, troubleshoot system-level issues, and manage the deployment of vendor patches and hotfixes.
API & Integration Management: Operate and maintain critical system integrations including Weather APIs, GIS/ADMS interfaces, Apigee Gateways, and Single Sign-On (IAM) protocols.
Network & Security Governance: Manage application certificates, TLS/PKI infrastructures, and authentication mechanisms to ensure secure communication between grid devices and the cloud.
Grid Forecasting Coordination: Partner with engineering teams and vendors to provide technical inputs for feeder forecasting and related Demand Response programs.
System Enhancement: Design and deploy enhancements to existing cloud-native systems to ensure long-term compatibility and interoperability with evolving grid standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education: BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
Technical Mastery:
5+ years of IT experience with enterprise-grade software application platforms.
Expert-level knowledge of IEEE 2030.5 protocol and DER field devices.
Extensive experience managing Hybrid Cloud environments (Azure preferred).
Security & Integration:
Deep understanding of Transport Layer Security (TLS) using PKI certificates.
Hands-on API integration experience (REST, MuleSoft CloudHub, Apigee, or ESFT).
Ability to interpret complex system architecture and network diagrams.
Preferred Background:
2-5 years of experience within the Electric Utility sector (Distribution or Transmission).
Familiarity with utility tools: SCADA, OMS, DMS, CYME, GIS, or OSISoft PI.
Azure Fundamentals or related cloud certifications. Equal Opportunity Employer / Disabled / Protected Veterans
