Genesis10 is currently seeking a Linux Automation Engineer - Hybrid for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Charlotte, NC, Plano, TX and Pennington, NJ. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated solutions that manage the end-to-end software update lifecycle across Linux platforms. The ideal candidate will focus on software packaging, certification, testing, and deployment in development, test, and production environments, with a strong emphasis on stability, compliance, and risk reduction. This position has a hybrid schedule requirement of a minimum of three days per week onsite.
Key Responsibilities: - Design and implement automation frameworks to manage Linux software updates and patching at scale
- Automate OS and application package deployment, upgrades, and rollbacks
- Develop reusable libraries, modules, and workflows using Ansible, Shell, Python, or similar tools
- Integrate automation with CI/CD pipelines for continuous delivery
- Implement automated pre-deployment certification checks (dependency validation, security baseline checks, version compatibility)
- Build and maintain automated test suites (functional, regression, and smoke tests) for patches and software releases
- Support phased rollouts with validation checkpoints
- Automate zero or low downtime deployment strategies
- Implement canary and rollback mechanisms
- Coordinate with release management, SRE, and platform teams to align deployments with change windows
- Improve platform resilience, observability, and error handling within automated workflows
- Troubleshoot automation failures and production deployment issues
- Ensure updates comply with security policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards
- Integrate vulnerability scanning and remediation into the automation pipeline
- Maintain accurate documentation and operational runbooks
Required Qualifications: - 5+ years of Linux engineering experience
- 3+ years of hands-on automation and deployment experience in large-scale environments
- Strong experience with Linux system administration (RHEL)
- Hands-on experience with automation tools (Ansible strongly preferred)
- Proficiency in scripting/programming (Bash, Python, or similar)
- Experience automating software patching, upgrades, and deployments
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab, or similar)
- Understanding of package management (RPM, YUM/DNF, APT)
- Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work across multiple teams (platform, security, application, operations)
- Excellent documentation and communication abilities
- Comfortable working in regulated, enterprise environments
Desired skills: - Exposure to container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible Tower)
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools
Pay range: $78.04 - $86.04 per hour
