Position: Lead Software Developer
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid 3 4 days onsite)
Duration: Long-term contract (1 year+, potential extension)

Job Summary:
Seeking a hands-on Lead Software Developer to design, build, and deliver secure, scalable enterprise applications while setting high engineering standards. This role combines deep technical expertise with team leadership, focusing on Java-based services, cloud-native development, CI/CD, testing, and responsible use of AI across the SDLC. The lead will mentor developers, enforce code quality, and collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, and Delivery teams in an Agile environment.

Must-Have:

Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot / Spring Cloud
Cloud experience with AWS (EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS, IAM)
Solid CI/CD pipelines, automated unit & integration testing
Experience applying AI tools in the SDLC (code generation, test creation, reviews, documentation)
Strong understanding of secure coding, observability (logs, metrics, tracing)
Experience leading teams, mentoring developers, and reviewing code at scale
Agile/Scrum experience with strong communication skills

Responsibilities:

Lead end-to-end design and development of scalable, secure services and APIs
Enforce code quality through reviews, standards, and CI/CD quality gates
Champion automated testing, performance, reliability, and observability practices
Apply AI responsibly across development, testing, and documentation workflows
Provide technical mentorship and guide engineers toward best practices
Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and Delivery teams; act as Scrum Master when needed
