Overview

We are looking for a Site Surveyor / Smart Hands Technician (Level 1) to support onsite infrastructure and network deployment activities across multiple locations in the Charleston area.

This role involves hands-on support for data center and network equipment, including rack installation verification, cabling work, and site validation activities. The technician will serve as the onsite “hands and eyes” for engineering teams, ensuring that deployed network infrastructure matches the design specifications and operational standards.

This is a field-based role, and candidates must be comfortable traveling between sites and working directly with infrastructure equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Site Survey & Infrastructure Validation

  • Conduct onsite surveys of network and infrastructure environments to gather information about equipment layout, rack space, power availability, and cabling conditions.
  • Verify that deployed infrastructure matches approved design configurations and customer standards.
  • Document findings, take photos, and report discrepancies to engineering teams.

Rack & Stack Support

  • Assist with rack and stack activities, including mounting network devices, servers, and hardware within racks and cabinets.
  • Verify proper placement and installation of equipment according to deployment guidelines.

Cabling & Connectivity

  • Support structured cabling activities, including Ethernet and fiber patching.
  • Ensure cables are properly labeled, routed, and organized according to best practices.

Smart Hands Support

  • Provide onsite technical support for remote engineering teams, performing tasks such as:
  • Checking device status
  • Reconnecting cables
  • Rebooting or replacing hardware
  • Verifying port connectivity

Quality Assurance (QA)

  • Perform post-installation validation checks to confirm infrastructure deployments meet required design and operational standards.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and reporting issues related to hardware or connectivity.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with rack and stack installation and structured cabling.
  • Prior experience working in Smart Hands, data center technician, or infrastructure support roles.
  • Basic understanding of network hardware such as switches, routers, and patch panels.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with remote engineering teams.
  • Highly responsible, detail-oriented, and dependable.

Additional Requirements

  • This role may require travel between multiple onsite locations.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working in data center or network infrastructure environments.
