Tekberry is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer II - Automation & Controls to support the design, integration, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment and production systems within an advanced manufacturing environment.

This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong mechanical design background and experience working alongside controls, electrical, and manufacturing teams on automation equipment, machine upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer II will support projects involving automated assembly equipment, material handling systems, fixtures, motion systems, and production line enhancements. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable working in both design and manufacturing floor environments and possess hands-on experience troubleshooting electromechanical systems in production settings.

Success in this role means delivering practical, reliable mechanical solutions that improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and enhance manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Automation Support
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, tooling, fixtures, and machine components for manufacturing automation equipment.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Support equipment layout activities, design reviews, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability/assembly initiatives.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable safety, quality, and manufacturing standards.
Controls Integration
  • Support integration of mechanical systems with:
    • PLC-controlled equipment
    • Servo motors and drives
    • Sensors and vision systems
    • Pneumatic systems and actuators
    • Motion control systems
  • Collaborate closely with controls engineers, electrical engineers, maintenance teams, and production personnel to implement new equipment and improve existing systems.
  • Assist with machine startup, commissioning, and production ramp activities.
Equipment Installation & Troubleshooting
  • Participate in machine builds, prototype assembly, factory testing, line trials, and equipment commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and automation-related equipment issues.
  • Investigate root causes of downtime, recurring failures, and process inefficiencies.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.
Continuous Improvement
  • Support initiatives focused on:
    • Equipment uptime
    • Throughput improvements
    • Scrap reduction
    • Ergonomics
    • Safety improvements
    • Cycle time reduction
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to source components and support equipment fabrication and assembly.
  • Document engineering changes, validation activities, test results, and project updates.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical engineering experience supporting:
    • Manufacturing environments
    • Industrial automation
    • Machine design
    • Production equipment development
Required Skills
  • Experience supporting automated machinery, assembly systems, conveyors, packaging lines, or material handling systems.
  • Working knowledge of controls-integrated mechanical systems including:
    • PLC-based automation
    • Sensors
    • Pneumatics
    • Actuators
    • Servo-driven systems
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as:
    • SolidWorks
    • Creo
    • Autodesk Inventor
    • Similar 3D CAD platforms
  • Experience developing detailed mechanical drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Manufacturing processes
    • Machine design
    • Mechanical assemblies

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience in manufacturing environments.
