AWS Migration Lead / Architect (Cloudera Hadoop to AWS)

Duration: 6 Months Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AWS Migration Lead / Architect to lead the migration of a large-scale Cloudera Hadoop environment to AWS. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in Hadoop ecosystems, AWS analytics services, cloud architecture, and enterprise-scale migration strategies.

The ideal candidate has successfully led Hadoop modernization initiatives, can mentor engineering teams, and is comfortable driving architecture, implementation, and stakeholder communication throughout the migration lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise Big Data solutions.
• Proven experience leading Cloudera Hadoop to AWS migration projects.
• Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring technical teams and driving large migration initiatives.
• Deep expertise with the Cloudera Hadoop ecosystem including:
  • HDFS
  • Hive
  • Spark
  • Oozie
  • Python
• Strong Linux administration and shell scripting (Bash) skills.
• Experience with cloud automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

AWS & Cloud Expertise

Strong experience designing and implementing cloud-native data platforms using:

• Amazon EMR
• AWS Glue
• Amazon MWAA / Apache Airflow
• AWS Lambda
• Amazon S3
• AWS IAM
• CloudWatch
• Other AWS analytics and data services

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the current Cloudera Hadoop environment, data pipelines, and workloads.
• Develop and execute an end-to-end migration strategy from Hadoop to AWS.
• Design scalable, secure, and high-performance AWS Big Data architecture.
• Evaluate AWS services for data ingestion, storage, processing, orchestration, and analytics.
• Lead migration activities including:
  • Data migration
  • Application re-platforming
  • Validation and performance tuning
• Ensure security, governance, compliance, scalability, and reliability across the AWS platform.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Developers, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders.
• Develop migration runbooks, architecture documentation, and operational procedures.
• Mentor engineering teams on AWS Big Data best practices and cloud modernization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with enterprise cloud modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Big Data architecture patterns and distributed systems.
• Experience implementing CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• AWS Certifications such as:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect
  • AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty (formerly Big Data Specialty)
