Location: Brooklyn, NY (Hybrid - 3 days/wk onsite)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Duration: 12 Months (with potential for extension)

Salary Range: $125,000 - $135,000 | W2: $65- $78

NYCERS is seeking a skilled COBOL Developer to join our team, working on critical projects that streamline our operations and improve service delivery for our members.

About the Role

As a COBOL Developer you will be responsible for designing, modifying, and maintaining mainframe applications that support essential business processes. Your expertise will help analyze existing applications, implement improvements, and troubleshoot production issues. You will work closely with business analysts and system users to translate requirements into effective solutions while ensuring system stability and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze business requirements and design robust COBOL applications for mainframe environments.
  • Develop and modify CICS and batch programs to enhance current business workflows.
  • Perform data analysis and cleanup from production environments to ensure data accuracy and system integrity.
  • Monitor system processes, diagnose performance issues, and implement necessary solutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive issue tracking and reporting, escalating critical timelines to meet client expectations.
  • Identify and resolve complex production issues impacting code modules.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to integrate mainframe applications with distributed systems where applicable.
  • Support system migrations, upgrades, and new implementations, including working with VSAM files, DB2, and SQL databases.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience of recent experience developing COBOL applications within a mainframe environment.
  • 5+ years experience with mainframe applications using JCL, COBOL, and CICS.
  • 5+ years experience working with VSAM files and DB2 databases, integrating existing systems with new requirements.
  • Proven ability to resolve complex and conflicting mainframe design issues efficiently.
  • Ability to quickly comprehend and analyze large, complex mainframe systems.
  • Excellent presentation, organization, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in IBM VSE mainframe environment.
  • Knowledge of stored procedures and SQL in MS SQL Server 2005 or later versions.
  • Familiarity with QuickJob utility language.

Educational & Certification Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Relevant certifications in mainframe development or related technologies are advantageous.
