Software Asset Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Asset Manager to manage and optimize the organization's software assets throughout their entire lifecycle. This position will be responsible for software licensing, compliance, inventory, vendor management, contract management, and cost optimization.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Software Asset Management (SAM), software licensing, IT asset management, vendor relationships, and license compliance. The candidate should be analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with IT, procurement, finance, legal, and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete lifecycle of software assets, from procurement and deployment through retirement and disposal.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of software applications, licenses, contracts, entitlements, and installations.
• Monitor software usage and licensing to ensure compliance with vendor agreements.
• Identify unused, underutilized, duplicate, or unauthorized software and recommend opportunities for cost savings.
• Track software license entitlements and reconcile them against actual software installations and usage.
• Support software audits and respond to vendor licensing inquiries and compliance reviews.
• Manage software contracts, renewals, maintenance agreements, and license expiration dates.
• Work closely with Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, and IT teams on software purchasing and licensing decisions.
• Develop and maintain software asset management policies, procedures, standards, and documentation.
• Analyze software usage and licensing data to identify trends, risks, compliance issues, and optimization opportunities.
• Assist with software vendor negotiations and renewals.
• Provide reporting and dashboards related to software inventory, licensing, compliance, spend, and risk.
• Establish processes for software request, approval, procurement, deployment, and retirement.
• Ensure software assets comply with organizational security and governance requirements.
• Assist with internal and external software license audits.
• Develop recommendations for reducing software costs while maintaining business and operational requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records within the organization's IT Asset Management/SAM tools.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, IT Procurement, or a related IT discipline.
• Strong understanding of software licensing models, agreements, and vendor contracts.
• Experience managing software license compliance and audits.
• Experience with software inventory, license reconciliation, and entitlement management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
• Experience working with IT Asset Management or Software Asset Management platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM/SAM Pro).
• Experience with tools such as Flexera, Snow Software, USU, or similar SAM platforms.
• Experience managing enterprise software vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, IBM, SAP, VMware/Broadcom, or similar providers.
• Experience supporting large-scale software audits.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and IT asset management best practices.
• Experience with contract and vendor management.
• ITIL, IAITAM, CSAM, or other relevant certification is a plus.
