Summary

Overview

We are seeking an experienced IDMS System Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our enterprise CA IDMS mainframe database environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of mission-critical mainframe database systems while supporting development and business teams.


Key Responsibilities

IDMS Administration

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain CA IDMS/DB and related components.
  • Perform database creation, schema management, and area sizing.
  • Monitor and tune IDMS environments for performance and availability.
  • Implement database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Manage IDMS dictionaries, subschemas, and system generation (SYSGEN).

Mainframe Operations

  • Work closely with z/OS teams to maintain integration with mainframe infrastructure.
  • Monitor system health, storage utilization, and batch/online performance.
  • Support CICS and batch environments that interact with IDMS databases.

Performance & Capacity Planning

  • Analyze database performance and optimize:
    • Buffer pools
    • DMCL
    • Journaling and logging
    • Storage areas and page sizes
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement proactive tuning strategies.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain IDMS security policies and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security and audit requirements.
  • Manage user access, roles, and privileges.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery

  • Design and execute backup/recovery strategies.
  • Conduct periodic disaster recovery drills.
  • Provide rapid response during production incidents.

Production Support

  • Provide L2/L3 support for IDMS-related incidents.
  • Troubleshoot performance, availability, and data integrity issues.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.

Automation & Documentation

  • Develop automation scripts using JCL, REXX, or CLIST.
  • Maintain documentation for system architecture, processes, and procedures.
  • Support change management and release processes.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience with:
    • CA IDMS/DB
    • z/OS Mainframe
    • CICS, JCL, TSO/ISPF
    • IDMS Utilities and Tools
  • Experience with:
    • Database tuning and performance optimization
    • Backup and recovery processes
    • Storage and capacity planning
    • Problem determination and root cause analysis
