Our Client, a Business Manufacturing and Supply company, is looking for an EDI Operations Lead for their Charlotte, NC location.
Responsibilities:
- The IT EDI Leader is a key member of the Optical Communications IT Business Engagement team, responsible for managing all Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) operations and leading IT projects supporting Commercial, Supply Chain, and Global Sourcing & Materials (GSM) functions.
- This role serves as the owner of OC's EDI environment, including oversight of the IBM Sterling, management of trading partner integrations, partnering with the IT integration and SAP operations teams, as well as OC business commercial and GSM teams. The position will drive end to end IT project delivery within the COC Business Engagement portfolio, ensuring alignment with business priorities and IT standards.
EDI Operations & Oversight
- Act as the primary owner of all EDI processes within Client Optical Communications.
- Commercial EDI interfaces with Customers
- Manage EDI integrations that support key Commercial activities (orders, forecasts, ASNs, invoicing) and GSM procurement processes.
- Commercial EDI Interfaces integrating with SAP BN (Ariba)
- Integration from IBM Sterling to and from SAP ECC
- Integration from Axway to SAP ECC (EMEA)
- 3PL Warehouse integration via EDI/XML (Picking, Receipts, Inventory Adjustments, etc.)
- GSM EDI interfaces
- Translate commercial and procurement requirements into functional and technical specifications.
- Oversee the IBM Sterling and ensure high availability, performance, and compliance with Client standards.
- Enter and manage all requests to IBM
- Manage all IT spend (forecast and actual) for IBM
- Serve as COCs primary contact for IBM Sterling, EDI service providers, and relevant consulting partners.
- Monitor service performance, SLAs, incident resolution, and upgrade cycles.
- Evaluate vendor capabilities and make recommendations for platform or workflow improvements.
- Oversee and Manage Operational activities provided by Corporate IT teams (SAP and Integration)
- Coordinate onboarding and maintenance of customer and supplier trading partners.
- Monitor daily transaction flows, proactively identify issues, and lead resolution across IT, Commercial, Supply Chain, and GSM teams.
- Ensure adherence to EDI standards (ANSI X12; EDIFACT if required) and commercial compliance requirements.
- Partner with Commercial, SAP ERP, and integration teams to ensure seamless data flow between backend systems and EDI interfaces.
- Ownership of the EDI enhancement and break/fix intake process, including review, prioritization, and coordination with business partners. (Does this stay with Brandon?)
- Perform and/or oversee SAP EDI configuration activities including partner profiles, output condition records, mapping condition records, and required Z tables for EDI enablement.
- Coordinate and/or execute technical setup activities in IBM Sterling including connection setup, routing, mapping deployment, and integration readiness.
- Lead testing-phase communications with internal and external stakeholders, including business notifications, customer communication for technical requirements, test readiness alerts, and confirmation of transaction success.
- Coordinate testing activities including validation of inbound and outbound SAP IDocs/EDI transactions, inFlight transmission monitoring, customer-portal confirmation, and approvals.
- Own go live readiness including production validation of SAP/EDI mappings, coordination of implementation dates, and participation in go live cutover and verification meetings.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on EDI experience, preferably in a manufacturing or supply chain–intensive environment.
- Experience supporting commercial-facing business processes (orders, shipping, invoicing).
- Experience with IBM Sterling VAN strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems used in manufacturing and distribution (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
- Experience supporting procurement or supplier communications preferred.
- Project management experience required; formal PM training or certification a plus.
- Proficiency with project management tools and methodologies.
- PM certification on Agile, Scrum preferred
- Expertise in negotiating vendor managed SLA to manage and lead EDI projects
- Strong understanding of EDI standards (ANSI X12; EDIFACT optional).
- Experience with integrating EDI with SAP (ECC/S4) as primary ERP
- Knowledge of SAP and SAP IDOCs
- Experience with integrating EDI utilizing XML
- Experience with core transaction sets used in commercial and procurement processes, such as:
- 810, 820, 830, 840, 850, 855, 856, 860, 940/945
- Ability to manage mapping development, testing, and validation.
- Familiarity with integration layers, APIs, flat files, and middleware concepts.
- Familiarity with EDI mapping tools such as Seeburger and BTP Integration suite a plus
- Awareness of basic scripting and automation framework in terms of EDI processing.
