Job Title: Optical Transport Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Optical Transport Engineer to support the design, deployment, optimization, and operational management of large-scale optical transport networks. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with DWDM, ROADM, OTN, and carrier-grade optical transport technologies, along with a solid understanding of IP/MPLS network integration and telecom infrastructure.
This role will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, availability, and performance of Comcast's transport network supporting broadband, video, wireless, and enterprise services.
Key Responsibilities

Design, engineer, and implement optical transport network solutions across regional and national backbone networks.

Support DWDM, ROADM, OTN, and wavelength service deployments.

Lead network capacity planning, optical path design, and transport architecture initiatives.

Provision, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot optical transport equipment.

Perform network performance analysis and optimize transport infrastructure.

Conduct fault isolation and root cause analysis for fiber and optical-layer impairments.

Collaborate with IP/MPLS, Data Center, Field Operations, and Engineering teams.

Develop optical design documentation, network diagrams, engineering standards, and best practices.

Support network migration projects, technology refresh initiatives, and network expansions.

Participate in maintenance activities, network upgrades, and change management processes.

Ensure service availability and compliance with operational and engineering standards.
Required Qualifications
Optical Transport Skills

Strong hands-on experience with:

DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing)

ROADM networks

OTN (Optical Transport Network)

Fiber optic transport systems

Optical-layer troubleshooting

Experience working with optical transport vendors such as:

Strong knowledge of:

Experience with optical performance monitoring and network management tools.

Understanding of network monitoring protocols and operational support processes.
Networking Skills

Strong understanding of IP/MPLS integration with optical transport networks.

Solid routing and switching fundamentals.

Knowledge of BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS preferred.

Experience with network capacity planning and traffic engineering.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting large Service Provider or Cable Operator networks.

Prior experience with Comcast, Charter, Cox, AT&T, Verizon, or similar telecommunications environments.

Knowledge of Metro, Regional, and Long-Haul Optical Networks.

Experience with network automation and scripting, including:

Familiarity with SDN and network automation platforms.

Experience working in NOC, Transport Engineering, or Backbone Operations environments.
Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field.

Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
