Mechanical Engineer IV

Location: Westborough, Massachusetts (Onsite)

Duration: 5 months

Role Overview

Our organization is seeking a Mechanical Engineer. This position will participate in the development of strategic, large-scale projects for the robotics manufacturing business. The role is responsible for the creation of optimized manufacturing and test processes for New Product Introduction (NPI) and owning process optimization and cost reduction initiatives for sustaining processes. This position is intended to support second shift operations, with potential for future rotation with first shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or support New Product Introduction (NPI) builds on the manufacturing floor.
  • Create clear, operator-friendly assembly work instructions using CAD drawings, images, and build documentation.
  • Set up production or prototype build areas, including tools, equipment, jigs, fixtures, assembly stations, material presentation, and safety requirements.
  • Design or specify fixtures, tooling, material-handling equipment, and ergonomic solutions.
  • Identify manufacturing and assembly risks during prototype builds and provide Design for Manufacturing and Assembly feedback.
  • Troubleshoot build issues and work directly with Design Engineering, Operations, Quality, Safety, and technicians.
  • Perform critical process reviews including Risk and Hazard assessments.
  • Write business and operational planning documents for capital equipment and plant infrastructure.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:
  • Experience leading or supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) builds on the manufacturing floor.
  • Experience with complex mechanical products.
  • Experience creating clear, operator-friendly assembly work instructions.
  • Experience setting up production or prototype build areas.
  • Experience designing or specifying fixtures, tooling, and material-handling equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting build issues with cross-functional teams.


Technical Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.


Additional Skills:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with evolving designs and incomplete documentation.
  • Ability to travel (~10%) to support projects.
