Title: Cleanroom R&D Technician

Location: Oxford, MA - Fully Onsite

Type: Full time

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Optics Laboratory Technician to support research and development activities in a hands-on laboratory environment. This role requires foundational knowledge of optical and opto-mechanical components, optics handling and cleaning techniques, and the principles of optical system operation. The ideal candidate possesses strong hand-eye coordination, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Success in this role will also require proficiency in the use of analytical test equipment, including power meters, beam profilers, spectrometers, optical spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
Responsibilities
  • Assemble precision optical and opto-mechanical subassemblies in accordance with engineering specifications and manufacturing procedures.
  • Inspect and evaluate incoming optical components to verify quality and conformance to requirements.
  • Perform testing and validation of optical assemblies to ensure compliance with performance and quality standards.
  • Support precision assembly work centers during periods of increased production demand or limited capacity.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of product documentation, assembly procedures, and work instructions.
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams regarding documentation discrepancies, errors, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Complete ERP-related work order documentation to support accurate job tracking, costing, and production records.
  • Maintain organized laboratory records and ensure adherence to established processes and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in Optics, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited college, technical school, or equivalent program.
  • Experience handling precision optical and opto-mechanical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret optical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Previous cleanroom experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and interpersonal communication abilities.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working in an R&D or manufacturing laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with optical test and measurement equipment, including:
    • Power meters
    • Beam profilers
    • Spectrometers
    • Optical spectrum analyzers
    • Oscilloscopes
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work effectively in a process-driven environment.
