Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced SAP BW/4HANA Data Tiering Optimization Architect to lead the architecture, design, and implementation of a Hot, Warm, and Cold data-management strategy for a large-scale BW/4HANA environment. The architect will assess existing data volumes and usage patterns, identify DTO-eligible Advanced Data Store Objects, define partitioning and retention rules, configure data movement across storage tiers, and ensure that reporting continues through the existing BW semantic layer after tiering.

Key Responsibilities

•                 Design the end-to-end SAP BW/4HANA Data Tiering Optimization architecture.

•                 Conduct workshops with business stakeholders to define retention criteria for Hot, Warm, and Cold data

•                 Lead project and work with business stakeholders, Basis (infrastructure) team, development team, reporting team to ensure successful implementation of repeatable archiving strategy.

•                 Lead as a project manager to ensure the overall success of BW/4 archiving program.

•                 Assess aDSOs, data volumes, data growth, partition structures, load patterns, process chains, retention requirements, and reporting usage.

•                 Identify and prioritize BW/4HANA objects suitable for DTO implementation.

•                 Define the enterprise data-temperature strategy:

• Hot: Active and frequently accessed data in SAP HANA in-memory storage.
• Warm: Less frequently accessed data using SAP HANA Native Storage Extension or Extension Node.
• Cold: Historical data using a supported external cold-storage platform, such as SAP IQ or SAP HANA Cloud data lake relational engine.

•                 Define partitioning strategies using appropriate time characteristics, such as fiscal period, calendar period, posting date, or document date.

•                 Configure DTO properties, data-temperature settings, storage connections, and movement rules.

•                 Design the lifecycle for moving eligible partitions from Hot to Warm to Cold storage, including retention expiry and controlled deletion.

•                 Integrate DTO processes with existing BW data loads, activation processes, housekeeping activities, and process chains.

•                 Lead a pilot implementation for a representative aDSO before production-scale rollout.

•                 Establish data reconciliation, exception handling, rollback, monitoring, and operational support procedures.

•                 Validate reporting across Hot, Warm, and Cold partitions using BW Queries, CompositeProviders, SAP Analytics Cloud, and Analysis for Microsoft Office.

•                 Conduct regression and performance testing for current-period and historical reporting.

•                 Coordinate with SAP Basis, HANA, infrastructure, security, reporting, compliance, and business teams.

•                 Produce implementation documentation, production runbooks, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.

•                 Required Skills and Experience

•                 Strong hands-on experience with SAP BW/4HANA architecture, implementation, and operations.

•                 Deep knowledge of Data Tiering Optimization, aDSOs, partitioning, CompositeProviders, BW Queries, and process chains.

•                 Experience designing and implementing Hot, Warm, and Cold data architectures.

•                 Working knowledge of SAP HANA in-memory storage, Native Storage Extension, Extension Node, SAP IQ, or SAP HANA Cloud data lake relational engine.

•                 Understanding of BW data lifecycle management, retention, archiving, housekeeping, and deletion processes.

•                 Experience with SAP Analytics Cloud and Analysis for Microsoft Office integration with BW/4HANA.

•                 Ability to evaluate data volumes, query patterns, storage consumption, system performance, and infrastructure capacity.

•                 Experience performing data reconciliation, reporting regression testing, performance benchmarking, and production cutover.

•                 Strong architecture documentation, stakeholder communication, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

•                 Experience delivering large-scale SAP BW/4HANA data-volume management, archiving, or HANA memory-optimization programs.

•                 Experience migrating SAP BW on HANA environments to BW/4HANA.

•                 SAP certification or equivalent delivery experience in SAP BW/4HANA and SAP HANA.

•                 Experience working in complex enterprise environments with formal retention, compliance, audit, and historical-reporting requirements.
