Mainframe Network Engineer - Remote / Telecommute

• The Mainframe Network Engineer will be responsible for architecting, deploying, and managing enterprise mainframe network environments.
• This role requires deep expertise in z/OS networking, performance monitoring, security enforcement, and high-availability design.
• The engineer will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance across complex mainframe infrastructures while supporting integration and disaster recovery initiatives.

Architecture And Network Management:

• Architect, deploy, and manage mainframe network environments using VTAM, SNA, TCP/IP, DVIPA/DDVIPA, Sysplex Distributor, and HiperSockets.
• Design and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery strategies.
• Manage Parallel Sysplex networking environments and related configurations.
• Support hybrid cloud and mainframe integration architectures.

• Monitor network performance, latency, throughput, and traffic using OMEGAMON, RMF, IBM NetView, Wireshark, and SolarWinds.
• Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks and protocol mismatches.
• Perform packet-level tracing and troubleshooting.
• Implement continuous performance improvement initiatives.

• Implement and enforce security controls including RACF, IP filtering, AT-TLS encryption, IPSEC, intrusion detection systems, firewall, and VPN configurations.
• Participate in security audits and maintain compliance with governance standards.
• Troubleshoot encryption and security-related connectivity issues.

• Resolve VTAM, TCP/IP, hardware, and encryption errors.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support and disaster recovery operations.
• Support failover strategies, backups, and recovery testing.
• Collaborate with system programmers, DBAs, application teams, vendors, and third-party providers for upgrades and issue resolution.

• Maintain detailed network documentation including diagrams, standard operating procedures, change logs, and incident reports.
• Ensure adherence to operational standards and change management processes.
• Develop automation scripts using REXX, CLISTs, or related tools for routine tasks.

• 10 15+ years of hands-on mainframe network engineering experience.
• Strong experience with z/OS environments, Parallel Sysplex, VTAM, TCP/IP, and SNA.
• In-depth knowledge of DVIPA/DDVIPA, HiperSockets, and Sysplex Distributor.
• Proficiency with monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as OMEGAMON, RMF, IBM NetView, and Wireshark.
• Experience with file transfer technologies including Connect-Direct, FTP(S), sFTP, TPX, and Supersession.
• Strong understanding of network security technologies and protocols.
• Experience designing and implementing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Familiarity with scripting and automation for mainframe network management.

• IBM z/OS Administrator or IBM Certified System Administrator.
• Networking and security certifications such as CCNP, CISSP, or equivalent.
