Exchange Architect - Microsoft 365
Role Overview
The Exchange Architect is responsible for the design, architecture, and technical governance of Microsoft Exchange Online within Microsoft 365. This role leads complex email, calendaring, and collaboration initiatives, ensuring secure, scalable, and highly available messaging solutions aligned to business and compliance requirements.
The architect works closely with security, identity, endpoint, and collaboration teams and serves as the technical authority for Exchange related decisions across the tenant.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
Design and maintain Exchange Online architecture within Microsoft 365, including:
o Mail flow (inbound, outbound, hybrid)
o SMTP relay
o Transport rules, connectors, and routing
Define reference architectures for:
o Exchange Online-only tenants
o Hybrid Exchange (on premises + Exchange Online)
o Cross tenant migrations and coexistence
Ensure alignment with M365 security, identity, and compliance architectures
Migration & Modernization
Lead and design email migrations from:
o Exchange Server (2013/2016/2019)
o Third party platforms (Google Workspace, Lotus Notes, etc.)
Define migration strategies, tools, and sequencing (cutover, staged, hybrid)
Oversee legacy Exchange decommissioning and dependency cleanup
Security, Compliance & Governance
Architect solutions leveraging:
o Exchange Online Protection (EOP)
o Microsoft Defender for Office 365
o Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
o Retention policies and litigation hold
Partner with security teams on:
o Phishing and spam mitigation
o Zero Trust email architecture
o DMARC, DKIM, SPF implementation

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
