Job title: Azure Application Engineer
Location: Jersey City, NJ - ONSITE
Duration: Long term Contract

What the team actually needs

• The team is shifting from platform maintenance to owning and building applications, especially Atlas.
• Oleg's team wants to reduce dependency on federated teams and bring application ownership in-house.

This requires engineers who can:

1. Write and maintain code
2. Build internal services and integrations
3. Still understand Azure deeply enough to operate securely

Explicit hiring shift

• Move beyond primarily DevOps/platform profiles
• Strong preference for application development experience
• Python and Go are most valuable
• Java experience is important for supporting existing/internal systems
• Azure platform knowledge remains necessary, but is no longer sufficient on its own
• We are targeting an Application-leaning Cloud Engineer, not a traditional DevOps engineer.

Must-have traits

• Hands-on application development (Python / Go; Java support)
• Experience building APIs, services, Functions, Logic Apps, or internal tooling
• Comfortable owning code in production (not just pipelines)
• Understands identity, RBAC, security, and governance concepts
• Can deploy and operate what they build in Azure

Explicitly deprioritized

• Terraform-only/pipeline-only DevOps profiles
• Strong infra engineers with no real application ownership
• Candidates who "support" apps but do not build them

Job Description
Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain internal applications and services that support cloud, identity, and access management use cases
• Develop production-quality code using Python and/or Go, with the ability to support Java-based services and integrations
• Build and maintain Azure-native application components such as Azure Functions, APIs, Logic Apps, and supporting services
• Integrate applications with Azure identity services (Entra ID, RBAC, managed identities, service principals)
• Own end-to-end delivery: design, development, deployment, and production support
• Implement CI/CD pipelines that support application delivery, testing, and controlled releases
• Partner with security and platform teams to ensure solutions meet governance, compliance, and audit requirements
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across application and platform layers
• Contribute to architectural decisions spanning application, identity, and cloud platform domains

Required Qualifications

• Strong application development experience in Python and/or Go
• Working knowledge of Java (supporting services, build processes, or application maintenance)
• Experience deploying and operating applications in Microsoft Azure
• Hands-on experience with Azure Functions, App Services, APIs, or Logic Apps
• Solid understanding of identity and access concepts (RBAC, managed identities, service principals)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines supporting application delivery
• Comfortable supporting production systems in regulated or enterprise environments

Preferred/Nice to Have

• Experience building internal tooling or platform services
• IAM, security, or governance-focused engineering experience
• Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred)
• Familiarity with Azure Policy, monitoring, logging, and audit tooling
• Experience with containerized workloads (AKS) and Gitops practices
