About the Role

We are seeking an Aeronautical Engineer II to join a Mechanical Engineering Energetics team supporting the development, integration, and testing of propulsion systems and launch vehicle hardware. In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, and validation of propulsion-related components and systems across space and defense applications.

You will work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to deliver high-performance engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

Perform analysis, design, and testing of moderately complex materials (including energetics), structural components, and control systems for propulsion applications.

Apply engineering principles, industry standards, and customer requirements to develop systems used in launch vehicles, missile systems, and space missions.

Analyze legacy data and define engineering problems to determine appropriate technical approaches and design solutions.

Support multidisciplinary design and optimization efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet mission objectives.

Plan, coordinate, and execute functional and environmental testing of hydraulic and pneumatic components and systems.

Provide hands-on support for test execution and data collection, including operation of relevant equipment.

Lead engineering activities for medium-sized subsystems, including:

Supplier coordination

Change management

Non-conformance resolution

Hardware acceptance reviews

Support pre-launch readiness activities, including hardware inspections and review of system performance data.

Conduct trade studies to evaluate alternative design approaches and recommend optimal solutions.

Develop new design concepts based on defined engineering criteria and evolving system requirements.

Identify customer needs and develop innovative engineering solutions to address them.

Prepare and deliver technical presentations and design reviews for internal and external stakeholders.

Support project planning, risk analysis, and execution of engineering deliverables.

Assist in defining system requirements and generating technical specifications.

Contribute to proposal development and new business initiatives.

Travel up to 10% to support suppliers, testing, and launch operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and 2+ years of relevant engineering experience,
or

Master's degree in a STEM field with 0+ years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline

Experience with MATLAB and Python for engineering analysis

Familiarity with environmental and functional testing methodologies

Experience using data acquisition systems

Knowledge of configuration and change management processes

Exposure to supplier or subcontractor management

Ability to present complex technical information clearly to diverse audiences

Experience with failure analysis and investigation techniques
