Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
• The Technical Lead must demonstrate expert level capability across SAP Utilities custom development and provide hands on technical leadership to an ABAP delivery team.
• Experience with design, development, and maintaining custom SAP CIS solutions spanning Billing, Device Management, FICA, Meter Data Management, and Customer Service, with primary responsibility for on premise SAP ECC IS U today and strategic alignment to transition to cloud-based SAP S/4HANA Utilities.
• Lead the development of Technical Specifications and solution designs for complex RICEFW objects, ensuring architectural consistency and long term maintainability.
• Provide expert guidance on ABAP development, including OO ABAP, enhancements, BADIs, workflows, mass processing frameworks, and performance critical batch programs.
• Oversee and review advanced ABAP development, including CDS Views and S/4 compatible patterns, ensuring solutions are optimized for future S/4 remediation.
• Establish and enforce upgrade safe development standards, minimizing custom code impact during ECC maintenance and future S/4 conversion.
• Guide the team on cloud aware and clean core principles, leveraging SAP BTP extensions where appropriate, while maintaining ECC stability and compliance.
• Provide architectural oversight for Fiori/UI5 applications and enhancements, ensuring alignment with SAP UX standards and long term roadmap.
• Support and govern integrations with other SAP ERP modules and external utility systems, including high volume and regulatory driven interfaces.
• Lead complex technical troubleshooting across the SAP CIS landscape, acting as the final escalation point for cross module and production issues.
• 10+ years of SAP ABAP experience with deep SAP ECC IS U expertise in regulated utility environments.
• Proven experience acting as a Technical Lead or Lead Developer on large scale SAP IS U implementations.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor developers, enforce standards, and own end to end technical outcomes.
• Strong understanding of ECC stabilization today with a clear approach to S/4HANA readiness and transition.
Technical Leadership & Quality
• Serve as Technical Lead for the development team, providing daily technical direction and decision making.
• Conduct and lead code reviews, enforce development standards, and ensure adherence to performance, security, and maintainability guidelines.
• Drive the creation and reuse of shared frameworks, utilities, and reusable components.
• Proactively identify technical debt and guide remediation efforts in preparation for future S/4HANA Utilities migration.
• Balance hands on contribution with oversight to ensure delivery quality and system stability.
Roles & Responsibilities
• This role is not a staff level developer; it is a delivery accountable Technical Lead.
• Associate is expected to lead design decisions, not just implement them.
• Success is measured by system stability, quality of deliverables, team effectiveness, and future readiness for S/4HANA
• Collaborate closely with functional IS U teams, architects, Basis, integration, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Provide accurate technical input for estimates, planning, and risk assessments.
• Support vendor accountability by ensuring delivered solutions meet SOW quality and documentation expectations.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non technical audiences.
